    RMZ250 (hard)enduro build

Are you referring to the contactor? It is basically a high current relay. Some builds use them, some don't. I don't think many builds leave out a fuse. I used a contactor on my build and have it wired to a kill switch as an e-stop. If something goes wrong, I can hit the button and cut power...

    2008 CRF250R - QS138v3 70H - ANT - Sanyo UR18650-RX 20s20p - Votol EM260

I went through basically everything that you have done up to this point. If you don't own a 3D printer, I would highly recommend one. They are relatively cheap and saved me so much time and money in machined parts that would have ended up not fitting. I was able to quickly test my CAD designs...

    Fardriver shut down when accelerating

I'm guessing the battery voltage is saging under load and tripping the LVP (low voltage protect). This could be in the BMS or controller.

    Suzuki LTZ400 electric quad build

Am I the only one that watched that video and though, "How did they fry the battery? It's probably just the BMS. I wonder if they'd send it to me?"

    JBD BMS Issue

Thank you everyone for the input. Unfortunately, I did not have anymore time to mess around with the JBD as this project has a deadline of Aug. 26. I ordered and installed a JK BMS. What a difference. Not only in function (the fact that it worked, like I expected), but size as well! The JK...

    Suzuki LTZ400 electric quad build

Looks like a cool build. I'll be following along. It will be interesting to see how you mount the motor to the swingarm.

    JBD BMS Issue

I know they don’t have selectable presets, but you can update all the setting to whatever you want, which is what I did and what batteryhookup recommended. It is definitely the BMS. I bypassed it and motor ran as expected.

    JBD BMS Issue

Correct, Overkill app. It seems much easier to use, but there is no option, as far as I can tell, to select battery chemistry, so I had to update all settings myself. Not a huge deal, but I would no be surprised if I fat fingered something, especially when they are all in mV and mA. Good idea...

    JBD BMS Issue

I hooked everything up on my new 72v motorcycle build tonight in an attempt to do the auto learn and some fine tuning. However, as soon as I give any throttle input, the BMS clicks and cuts out instantly. The sprocket on the motor gets maybe two revolutions. I am using a JBD AP21S002 on a...

    Sprocket help QS138 70h v1

My son and I are converting a Coleman CT200U using a QS138 70h v1. It has the tapered shaft. I did not realize when I bought it how difficult it would be to find sprockets. The motor came with a 428 sprocket and the bike uses a 420 rear. I am having a heck of a time finding a new sprocket...

Help troubleshooting scooter won't turn on

I thought I’d post a follow up and resolution to my problem. My charger came, but unfortunately did not solve the problem. I decided, as a last ditch effort, to open the battery pack to investigate. After removing lots of silicone and sliding the cells out, I discovered one of the balance leads...

Help troubleshooting scooter won't turn on

Thanks for the help. I had ordered a charger before I started digging into it (I could not find any 42v output chargers laying around the house) so I'll see what happens when it arrives. Fingers crossed it comes to life, but I'm not holding my breath. Unfortunately, these scooters seem to be...

Help troubleshooting scooter won't turn on

Battery negative to controller B+ input = 36v I had to unplug the connector for the display to be able to measure, but all wires measured 0v, except the red which measured 36v. I think the nail in the coffin was your last suggestion. Pressing the power button while monitoring the battery...

Help troubleshooting scooter won't turn on

Hi all. I recently picked up a used Ridel XS1 scooter. The previous owner told me he lost the charger and it had not been rode in about 2 years, but for $20, I figured I could take a chance and buy a new charger and not be out a whole lot. Well, I got it home and decided to do some...

Sourcing parts for my first eMoto build

There is a youtube video where they discuss these batteries. At one point, you can see the label where is states they are Lishen 21700 LA cells in a 21s configuration. E&C has also developed their own controllers for the Razor kits. It seems like they are phasing out of the Votol, but maybe...

    Mounting the QS138 v3 in taotao dbx1 140cc

That should be a fun bike! I have a similar build using the v3 motor, but at 96v and a full size motorcross frame and knobby tires. It's nice and torquey! I imagine with those smaller wheels, you'll have no problem getting up to speed as fast as you want! That battery looks like a beast...

    YZ250 build

I figured out the clunking. It wasn't the motor after all. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that the chain had too much slack in it and I think in a high torque situation, it was enough to jump teeth on the sprocket. I also noticed that my motor mounting tab has broke off the motor. I don't...

    YZ250 build

The LM setting didn't seem to do much, or anything. The only other piece of info here is that I had to swap a few of the hall sensor and phase wires to get the wheel spinning in the right direction. Maybe I need to do the auto tune again after that?

    YZ250 build

I just tried reducing the max line current setting to 200A thinking that if the controller and BMS settings were close, maybe the controller was asking the BMS for more and the BMS was going into "protect" briefly, but that didn't seem to make any difference. There is a section in the...

    YZ250 build

I've been able to make some decent progress lately and actually took the bike on the first short ride today. Still a lot of clean up to do with wiring, etc. but it was nice to have the bike moving under it's own power. I did run into a small (I hope) issue, though, on the test ride. As I got...

    YZ250 build

I'm looking for the capacitance of my controller and that matters because it will determine how long the precharge takes. I do not use the 4 little pins on the connector. The resistor on the connector is built into the positive side of the male connector.

    YZ250 build

I reached out to QS directly and found the QS12 that I am using has a 15 ohm resistor. I was able to verify on my connector as I measured roughly 17 ohms. I've also sent a note to far driver to see if they can tell me the capacitance, but not heard back yet.

    YZ250 build

Thanks for all the detailed info. I am using a 1 kohm resistor, so 15 seconds of precharge time, using your example. That is longer than I was thinking. Part of my problem is that I cannot find any info on capacitance of the controller, so I am guessing. I think I will change to a 100 ohm...

    YZ250 build

My understanding of precharge, as used on these types of builds, is for the capacitors in the controller. Nothing to do with protecting the contactor. That's why I was surprised to hear him recommend precharging the other side of the contactor B+ wiring. I suppose it's also possible I...
