    Bafang m820 re braining

For my needs and wants, it is a great upgrade. The ability to change whatever settings you want and integration with a non bafang battery are the main bonuses. The stock controller assist levels don't actually scale the assist they just limit the power so input Vs output doesn't change but...

    Bafang m820 re braining

Just an update to to this: the esp madness worked fine but grin launched documentation for the v6 phaserunner/baserunner with more info on 3rd part displays and additional PAS sensor setup info, so I decided to try wiring the torque sensor directly into the controller, no additional boards and...

    Bafang m820 re braining

I should probably add that the esp32 is completely unnecessary (it is only needed for being pedantic over the torque scaling). The analogue output can be directly connected to the Baserunner's PAS throttle and the throttle map adjusted in the Phase runner suite, the assist levels from the...

    Bafang m820 re braining

There is indeed a magnet with a hall at the end of the motor shaft, as per the m620. From what I could find, it generates a simulated hall signal but I couldn't find anyone who has managed to tap into it or use it for the ASI/grin controllers so I will leave it on the backburner and revisit it...

    Bafang m820 re braining

Nice one, I will have a look next time I crack open the case. Might be able to replace it with a hall sensors straight to the controller (not using the internal board at all) Does it pick up 1 pulse per revolution if it's shaft based, I think the grin FOC controllers rely on motor poles passing...

    Bafang m820 re braining

After years of pulling info from forums, I finally have something to hopefully contribute. Inspired by casainho and his m500 esp/vesc transplant. Build spec: M820 motor Esp32-s3 (circuitpython) Sw102 display (unmodified) Grin baserunner controller. Crack open the casing, there are no hall...

    Bafang M500/M600 thread

Some good news for you if you are still looking at the M820, it is sensorless, no hall sensors at all so your M500 sensorless approach was the right choice!
