Tangerine Dream Machine efficiency initial numbers

The test done using a friends velo, which is either a Strada or Mango, was using the legal maximum for Europe namely 250W and no power at all when going over 25kph. This was the journey which resulted in 170 km on less than 500Wh. My Quest, prior to electrification, weighed 35kg. Now, the...

I'm 15 stone I wish to buy an legal 250w.

I now weigh exactly 9 stone (6'3") and with my Quest velomobile on the flat it's OK but any kind of uphill gradient and it's pretty useless. I hope to set a new world land speed record of around 125 mph using probably about 11KW on Pendine Sands here in South Wales. We'll see.

Tangerine Dream Machine efficiency initial numbers

Following further testing I think that I have previously greatly underestimated TDM's range. Next week I will be carrying 12x2.5kg Multistar 6s 20Ah packs which will provide around 6kWh of capacity. Soren (Velostrada on YouTube) did 170Km on less than 500Wh so if I use my CA to restrict to the...

    Lightningrods powered Quest velomobile

So I took part in the Wales Velothon on Sunday. I was supposed to be at the front with the lead BMW i8 but because of mechanical problems which meant I arrived late so was not allowed to start for safety reasons. I went elsewhere but after an hour I found myself on the route which was still...

Tangerine Dream Machine efficiency initial numbers

I think a few of you have been following my Quest velomobile electrification project which has been happening with the assistance of many people including Lightningrods and his Big Block mid-drive (but at 100 Volts). Recently I've been doing a bit of testing at 50 Volts with a very small Lyen...

What's the current maximum speed for electrical pedal bike?

I forgot to mention that Swansea University has installed a big block Lightningrods kit which has two freewheels making it impossible to turn the pedals by means of the motor. As you can hear in this clip it cycles exactly as before without the motor going (it's not been switched on yet)...

What's the current maximum speed for electrical pedal bike?

I didn't really get my point across as intended. What I was trying to say is that if it weren't electrified it should still be possible to pedal it up a steep hill - something which would probably be impossible for the sort of radical conversions we often see on ES. TDMM

What's the current maximum speed for electrical pedal bike?

As they are a commercial organisation you'll probably not be too surprised to hear that the Guinness people want a minimum of £3,000 before they will consider saying or doing anything. My view is that the bike should be able to be pedaled normally and be no different from how it was prior to...

What's the current maximum speed for electrical pedal bike?

I've just had a nice email back from the Guinness record books crowd saying that there is no record for an electrically assisted pedal cycle. What have people managed here? Luke? Methods? Cheers Andrew The Tangerine Dream Machine Man

    UK Ebiker riders

Anyone know the legality of a bike using a three position switch where say position 1 is fully legal but the others aren't? Would it be legal to use it if, for the sake of argument, you only used position 1 out on the road/ path etc? Andrew

    Battery Medic Balancing

Pity I didn't hear about your ambient temp thing before. I posted all 5 of mine back to HobbyKing and never heard anything since! Since then I just keep an eye on the balance and very occasionally balance manually - seems fine. Andrew

Ever forget to turn it off ?

Recently I managed to forget to turn off my controller (Methods 100V) which was also connected to a CA (backlit) and (fortunately) a fully charged 24S 10Ah lipo pack. I then went to France for 5 days... On my return the lowest cell was at 3.0v Won't be doing that again in a hurry. Andrew

Methods 100V 100A Programmable Regen Controller

Thanks for that Methods - I thought it might be something along those lines as it was working fine at 20s. I guess the question is - Doctorbass - what value did you use for R12? Andrew X5305 on 700c Turnigy 25c 24S 2P

Methods 100V 100A Programmable Regen Controller

I've had one of these controllers for > a year now and love it. Recently I added some more lipo to take up the pack from 20S to 24S. All good so far except that I have lost the regen braking which I liked a lot mostly for the smooth braking rather than any efficiency improvement. Anyone...

Hobby king balancer/discharger don't like cold

They may not like the cold but they certainly don't like me. I used the Steveo bulk serial charging system with a couple of Meanwell's and 4 of the balancers used with a Turnigy 20s 2p setup. To be on the safe side I originally bought 5 of the balancers. About a week ago after only say 8 weeks...

    Battery Medic Balancing

Nah nothing wrong with the harnesses it's just that the BM's aren't happy trying to balance for hours on end. What I have seen is the top two channels are the first to go because these are the ones that seems to stay on for the longest. I used to try to leave them in balance mode (sometimes...

    Battery Medic Balancing

Finally all 5 of my battery medics have failed and I have posted them back to HK for replacement. In the meantime, not too surprisingly, things are starting to drift and I'm getting tired of all the manual fiddling around with lab PSU's trying manually to balance things out. What I'd like to...

    Battery Medic Balancing

Now that's interesting information because I have been leaving them attached to the packs at all times - mainly because the plugs are a pain to remove and don't give me much confidence that they'll take kindly to too many plugings in and out. All four of them are set to 4.1V but what I've been...

    Battery Medic Balancing

Having looked at Steveo's lipo charging video on you-tube I decided to go for that type of set-up but in my case for charging/ balancing 2p 20s paralleled on the main leads and also by the balance leads using two Meanwell 350's turned down to 41V each with one modified to remove one of the...

    speed to watt ratio

OK nothing wrong with the CA, just the shunt value I had in it. When I changed it to something more appropriate for Methods' 100V 100A monster it turns out that cruising at 30mph takes more like 700W. Andrew

front wheel hub vs Rear wheel hub motor

I had a front Golden Motor clone on a hybrid bike and it was OK with 36V and a 24A controller except that up steep hills - say 10-12% the front wheel motor would soon start to spin resulting in quite a lot of tyre tread loss. I reckon I went through one every 500 miles or so. In the end, having...

Parelling LIPO permanently in a pack

Like the others say this will work as long as each of the cells you are joining are pretty close. It's surprising how much current those little balance wires will take, however. I've used a lab power supply to do some individual cell charges to speed up balancing and have been know to put...

    speed to watt ratio

Interested to see this as I've just been out for the first time on my Ross Speed recumbent which now has an x5305 at 20S and was amazed to see only 200W needed to maintain 30mph on the flat. It just goes to show that it's all about the wind resistance - either that or there's something wrong...
