Looking for a reliable cheap(ish) DC-DC converter for ~10A (12A would be better) at 12V from a 55V battery pack. Just wondering if anyone knows where to look for one or has bought one similar in the past.

I could parallel 4 of '3A LM2596HV Voltage Regulator DC Converter Buck Module' http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260821735200?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Could be a bit too expensive though.

Thoughts

These are stated good for up to 60V in

Edit: Now I'm home from work...
I have recently brought one of these and I will probably wire this up tomorrow.
They say 42V - 60V down to 12V.

They are cheap. As always with a buck converter the failure mode worries me...(Input voltage on output). The outside looks ok but its potted so i don't know how good they are inside.
I will be using mine with 57.4V maximum input so I will let you know how i get on.

hmmm that would be good but I don't think they list them for that price anymore. I might look at a 240W version just so it doesn't run hot plus some room for expansion too.

Good idea having some headroom, pushing one of these converters hard could risk FET failure which could fry any 12V loads
I only needed about 5A peak so 10A gives me plenty of head room.
There does seem to be a bit of variation in price between multiple sellers of this converter but yeah haven't seen it that cheep again. I guess I got lucky :).

I wonder If you could use a meanwell power supply as a DC DC converter. I could put 2 of my packs in series for about 110 volts.

Anyone tried using a meanwell as a DC converter?

I am not looking for anything permanent, just so I can use my 14s lipo packs to power my 12v hunting spotlight sometimes, without reconfiguring the packs.
