Just thought some here might be interested in the motors... Turns out they were optimized by the Integrated Actuators Laboratory (LAI) at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL):

12 kW BLDC, 500 rpm good for operating at temps down to -60 degrees (Celsius I believe that is)

The LAI looks like it must be a fun place to work...

Strange, I was under the impression the motor was geared?! You can see quite a different motor in the video below.
