I'm new around here, great forum and I'm addicted! Thanks to all who has made this possible its an excellent read!
Anyway I thought I would share some info about the battery I have been working on for my Chinese Electric Quad Bike. (bought mainly to experiment with and to have some fun!)

The battery box started out life with 4 x 12V SLA's in, needless to say they didn't perform that well.
Next up I put 14S Lipo of 16Ah capacity in there, went well but needed more top speed as it was only reaching 13 MPH from the BM1418zxf motor, its worth saying that the current setup has a huge amount of torque and can really pull through the mud and can practically go over any obstacle! but could just do with some extra top end, so I opened the speed controller and found it would handle unto 80V... so now heres the latest rendition, 18S.

The battery gauge is a really neat bit of kit from a company called Victron Energy, it gives a proper State-of-charge reading as well as Power, Volts, Current, Battery Temperature, Time-To-Go and loads more.
I'm using the Hyperion 1420i charger to balance charge the 14S and then 4S bank seperately via 2 x 25 Way connectors, this idea was nicked from some others on here
I had a quick run around the block before I put the battery back together and I'm now getting about 18-19mph! this is more like it, closer to my target of 30MPH for some scary off roading. Everything remained cold after running peaks of 2.5KW for 5 or so minutes, so hopefully nothing will fry!
I might experiment with gearing next to further improve the speed as its chain/sprocket driven but I really don't want to lose the torque, I suppose I could up the amps to add the torque back with a modded or new controller. Or maybe just switch the motor for something way more powerful
I'd be interested to hear if others have done anything similar?
