Bummer. I was looking forward to demoing a ton of e-bikes next month. Looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer:

Lots of stuff going to get canceled. I might be out a thou next fall, for an RV spot at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. I could cancel now for refund, but hell no, not yet. The event is in October.

Just saw a picture of Mecca on the news. Nobody there. Usually an incredible crowd doing the wheel.

Lived in Farmington, NM, just loved the Balloon Fiesta. Bet there are rock crawling e-bikes up there. Maybe I should think one up!

Be interesting to consider the logistics of trying to reschedule for 2020 with companies displaying from all over. Always look forward to the event, but alas guess it'll be a trip to Death Valley instead.

Burning man just occurred to me.. Be a pity if it's so bad it gets canceled too. Lots of hanging by a thread events will lose money, and that will be the end of it.

I'm wondering if it might be a blessing in disguise. When it's rescheduled, perhaps only the truly hardcore and those passionate about the sport will bother to attend. Making it a funner event. Who knows if it'll even be rescheduled?

Ultra Music/Techno Festival closed in Miami.
I'm betting for fears of being sued, because I bet they make a gold dime off that shit.

Admit weekend for prospective students will not take place as university escalates response to coronavirus

by Elena Kadvany / Palo Alto Weekly

Stanford University has become the second major U.S. university to cancel in-person classes to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. The university also announced Friday that two undergraduate students who possibly were exposed to the virus are in self-isolation and that a School of Medicine faculty member has tested positive for COVID-19.

Beginning Monday, March 9, all classes will move online "to the extent feasible" for the last two weeks of the winter quarter, Provost Persis Drell wrote to students on Friday.

From what I heard, what did in south by southwest, was major sponsors pulling out. Can't put it on without the coke or red bull money at all. These things aren't generally profitable, except to the local economy. Austin just lost millions in retail spending. No hotels, meals, and gas to get home sales.

But can't blame the corporate, to spend many thousands on banners and such, that nobody even comes to see makes no sense at all.

We had a nice smaller balloon rally in Las Cruces for quite some time, I was on the organizing committee, mostly field set up and tear down. But when the big bank eliminated its small but crucial sponsorship, the rally could not keep going. The tiny sponsors at the sub $500 level just could not support it. Insurance for the event was what we could not afford anymore, as it quadrupled in cost. Not for the flying. the balloons have insurance. This was just insurance to have a few thousand people walk on ground we were responsible for liability. Dumbass makes a face plant walking while taking a picture insurance.

The cerveza virus has taken down yet another victim, the BNP Paribas tennis tournament, due to draw 450,000 spectators. Organizers are attempting to "reschedule" the event for later in the year:

Bahrain Grand Prix will run on time, with no spectators.

But alcohol can wipe out bacteria, so maybe beer is the cure. Think of the drinking at the races. . . .

So at some point, Homer Simpson should say: "Corona. The cause of, and solution to, all our virus problems."
