I'm very experienced with street studded winter bike riding, and assure everyone I'm super cautious. I'd like expand this crazed hobby into an e-bike I'll soon be getting from Max Kogan of ebikedeals.com : http://citytrackpro.com/
My problem is that his heavy duty rims are sized 24X3, and I'm unable to find knobby bike tires (spoked or unspoked) in that size range. Max has assured me that any 24X2.2.35 tires will fit on his rims. Please know I'm willing to stud'em myself with something like Grip Studs: http://www.gripstuds.com
Unfortunately, my options seem to be limited. Ice racing tires geared for motorcycles don't have anything in a 24" rim size (drat). The only choice available seems to be the DMR Moto Digger: http://www.mtbr.com/cat/tires-and-wheels/tire/dmr/moto-digger/prd_417960_151crx.aspx
Note, the Maxxis Holy Roller 24X2.4 has been discontinued by Maxxis, but backstock still seems available: http://www.cambriabike.com/Maxxis-Holy-Roller-26in-Tire-Black.asp Should I buy a couple of these while I can?
The Duro Wildlife Leopard DOES come in true 24X3" sizing. However, it strikes me as specialized for unicycles. I bet the rubber is too soft and knobs are ill suited for studs: http://www.unicycle.com/duro-racing-wildlife-leopard-24-x-3-0-dh-tire.html
The Arrow Wide Bite 24X3 is another unicycle tire that I suspect won't make me happy: http://www.arrowracing.com/home.html
