Hello

I would like to upload my latest build. I am looking for some chain advice, I am thinking size 40 chain with suitable sprockets in a package for the motor shaft and rear tyre.
If anyone knows a supplier for a 60 tooth with a 30mm bore hole for 40 chain and 3/4" sprocket with 14teeth + chain or where to order them from I'd be very grateful if you could share this information, I've got a budget of $70 for these items

Thie nice thing about this motor I picked up is that it is a fast wind and spins at 2000rpm at 24volts...so even at 48volts it will probably spin at 4000rpm with some parasitic losses, the motor is rated at 250AMps, I own a controller that can output 350A, and some amp20ah a123 cells in 16series configuration ready to slot in, built up the bms for them....everything's ready except for the plate, which I need to order from the welder's. I drew it up in autocad.

any advice on 'what you would do' would be very useful right now.

You will need a tighter pitch chain if you want much reduction, due to small wheel size. Thinking your going to need much more than your planning unless you want to go super fast. I would look at 35 or 219 chain. Surpluscenter.com has the 25, 35, 40 stuff. They have the stock hubs also. 219 you need to find from mostly go cart suppliers.
 
Currently it runs a 25H chain on a 60tooth sprocket, I could get away with an M8 bolt with a 25H pinion sprocket centered with sleeves on it, that'd be the easy way. I found this pinion sprocket that'll fit right into the motor's shaft....and the job's a good one....What is the maximum ammount of force the 25H chain can be stressed under until it breaks? Can I use a stronger chain on a 25 sprocket?

HOw many teeth? 6,9,12,14?

I know I'll be putting in well over 28hp through that chain....and it's only rated for 6.2hp... but this is on a very gentle ramp...so it doesn't throw me off the board
I'll probably try it first, and see how it goes, how many teeth do you think I should go for? 9 makes less noise and is easier on chain wear?

it does have brakes and steering, yes it will be very fast, but the acceleration should be very slow...no will notarized, no life insurance :) don't worry, this is my third crazy build using over 300Amps, I'm quite clever at doing this, plenty of experience lol just finding some trouble with the mechanical stress on the chain

The 25h should hold up well. I would give it a try. I would not worry about it as you will not have much shock loading. Would not go under a 11 tooth sprocket or it will be very rough turning, noisy and short lived. Given the application, it may out live you and the 9 tooth may just throw you off a bit quicker. :p :roll: :lol:
 
I'll try it, I bought the pinion sprocket today, the most they had was 9 teeth...it will probably throw me off but hey... I'll just have to get a smaller controller... :)

I just received the 9 tooth sprocket today, very exciting :D
I will be buying a piece of steel to cut and weld together onto the motor fairly soon, can't wait to get the project finished :)
