52v BMS recommendation

I've had good luck with the ones from here:

I agree with fechter. Got this one from the same supplier Bestech. It's rated 80A continous, 200A peak. It's a rather agressive 14S BMS for balancing, as the balancing discharge rate is 168 mA per cell (or per parallel cell string)...

Thanks guys for the replies, the board does seem a little over the top for what I want to use it for 14S2P 18650 on a BBS02 being used very lightly as a power aide rather than raw power. I think the max it will pull is about 25A and from experience the more over spec you go in electronics, the background loss of efficiency of the board becomes an issue, or am I being over cautious here.

Thanks

did you ever find a BMS? what did you get? how do you like it? where did you get it? did it come with the wires/wiring harness?

I have a 14s 7P 52V 24mAh battery and recently, as far as I can determine, the charger died. just over 3 months of use. bummer.

anyway, I live in Brazil so can only get parts when I return. I return for thanksgiving and will be in the states for about a week.

So, I need to get a good 14S bms just in case there is a problem with mine when I get back. I have already been without the bike for a few weeks now. :x

thanks.

I’ve used a dozen or more BMS/PCM and I’m not a Bestechpower fan. Half of those no longer in service. MOQ is just the beginning of your woes when dealing with company policies, IMO.

Myself, I’ve gone stupid-cheap along with more PayPal protection with stuff like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/20A-Lithium-Ion-11S-14S-Bleeding-BMS-20A-40A-/222273910094?var=&hash=item33c08eb54e:m:mlS95Z0UgGx847JOj7S1C2Q

Here’s one very close to 14S BMS I purchased early Spring this year:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCB-BMS-for-48v-14S-Li-ion-Battery-Pack-with-Equilibrium-40A-charge-discharge-/172410293081?hash=item2824744b59

Searching 14S BMS I’d also suggest 58V and 58.8V in search terms. That’s top charge for Li-ion 14S chemistry, 4.2V/cell.

Another thing to consider is that discharge protection isn’t nearly as critical as charge protection. eBike's usually outdoors while discharging so there’s much less chance of burning a building down or causing a lot of smoke damage.

That said, I’ve even employed low power BMS as charge only and power directly off battery terminal leads with no BMS discharge protection. That’s a much cheaper circuit to populate with components than something which can handle 30-60A or more.

"14s 2p for 25 amps ? Maybe a 3p or more. Why do people need run cells at or near limit as 2p"

I only need about 6.0 amps for the two hours of cycling I do, the plan is to put a bit of effort in myself. But there are other considerations to consider such as with 2P I can locate the batteries within the frame, hence the need for a BMS.

Plan is to locate 14s2p within the frame and build another slab to put into my backpack located within a standard drinks bottle, if needed on longer rides just plug the extra capacity in at the start of the ride, or perhaps switch the frame cells to the bottle if needed, being open minded about this as the Bafung 02 I have bought operates differently to the torque sensor in the Bosch system which I use about 6.0 amps on a ride.

The Bafung is just a bit more adjustable as far as top speed and power output. :D

Yes two different animals. The bafang eats more amps if you let it. Plus I lifepo4 around 20ah usually use 10 to 12ah. So yea carrying some extra weight. But now hooked on 7,000 watts like a daily junkie.
Yes I do not run a bms 948 cycles. 3 sets sense wires a hyperion 1420, three 1220 thunder now a hp600 and meanwell at 16amps.
