6 magnet Sensor

Hi all, my first post so sorry if its been asked before.

I just got a second hand e bike and have noticed that the magnetic sensor has lost the splines in the centre. It has 6 equi spaced magnets but I cant find a sensor with 6 in...only 5, 8, 10 or 12. I have therefore ordered a 12 magnet sensor ...same dimentions but 6 extra magnets. Now I could remove 6 of the magnets (every other one) and the disc would efectively be identical to the broken disc, with the 6 equally spaced as in the old one, so hopefully no issues.
My question is, If I replaced the broken 6 magnet sensor disc with the 12 magnet sensor disc without removing any would there be a problem or would I not notice a difference in riding. Obviously if no difference I wouldnt need to remove 6 magnets and just fit it.

As long as the magnets can activate and deactivate the switch (either Hall or reed) it will work.

Is there a reason why the magnets might not activate or deactivate the switch?
