Hello Endless Sphere! this is my first post so I will give a little bit of background as well as request some advice please.

I'm an Aussie in Canberra currently part way through changing from car to an electric bike which will be my main form of transport. My most important use will be for commuting to work which is a 10km ride over a hill ridge which has a 82m total height on my trip.
I work as an electronic technician and have approx. 30 years experience in this.

Recently, I have purchased my first properly fitted bike, a Giant Talon which is great to ride. For the first time in my life I'm riding an XS framed bike which suits my short ass well. :D

After previous research three months back, this week I have purchased a Bafang BBS02 48v 750w. I look forward to fitting to this to the bike very soon.
Previously I was very close to selecting and buying both the motor and a battery pack but then life got in the way with busy times. Now I'm back on track however the file that I had been making notes in for battery selection has been lost. Must stop loaning thumb drives to my son.....

The small size of the bike frame triangle had made battery selection difficult as standard off the shelf packs I had found will not fit. After discussion with a colleague I had been investigating going down the DIY Lipo route for best power to weight ratio as well as size being considered.

For a point of reference, I am 72kg, a couple of years away from 50, the one way trip distance is 10km and has a moderate hill. I can charge at work and always look to buy quality. I'm mainly looking for pedal assist so that I won't have to push so hard on the way home over the hot summer months. It gets to mid 40's degrees C here in summer and the sun is scorching!

Now I'm back to the task and so I thought instead of doing all the research on my own I will ask for some advice. At the same time I will also resume research.

So, please can advice or links be offered as to what may suit my needs? Any help with regard to battery options, BMS, cabling, mounting options and suitable chargers will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

For reliability and safety of charging, I would skip the lipos and get a high quality pack based on Samsung or Panasonic 18650 cells such as provided by em3ev.com. Either a the dolphin pack which mounts in the triangle if it fits your frame, or small triangle pack which fits in the triangle bag. You would most likely use 120 to 240 watt hours round trip on your commute, so these small ~500 whr packs would be a good size for you and last a long time since you could charge to 90% capacity and discharge to 40% capacity.

Thanks Jon NCal.

Last time I looked I didnt find any triangle bag configured battery packs but I can see them now. Sadly a standard Dolphin pack is too large for mounting within the triangle- another disadvantage of being vertically challenged.

Cheers

EM3ev triangle pack. If not too big for your bike. Get the excellent bag to go with it.

Emaxebikes and Dillenger, both in AU, have newer styled "dolphin" packs that may fit. Also, em3ev could construct a custom pack, especially since your w/h requirements are minimal, that might fit in an Ibera bag (<$20 US at Amazon) which is smaller than the other triangle bags.

thanks 2old,

Im gonna get back in touch with Emax today, it seems I may be lucky in that triangle bags/ packs are now available from Emax but they werent when I started looking 3 months back.
