Hi
Total newbie here. Nice forum! Lots of great info.
I just ordered direct thru the manufacturer(well, direct from Canadian Supplier at least), 2 brand new model Airstream folding electric bikes. These bikes have a 350watt motor, 36V LiPo battery, 7speed Shimano gears, speed of 28-30 kph, and a range of 70-90 km. These speed and range specs were based on a rider of 175lbs. Won't get for another 5 weeks roughly. Don't have any plans to radically mod it-might add a few things, but they will be great not only around home, but to put into our RV for our summer trip down south to Myrtle Beach.
Originally I was looking at the electric ezip 1000w scooters from Currie, but reconsidered when I realized they would only be legal in private parks and private property. Our new ebikes on order are legal anywhere in Canada, including Provincial Parks, on the roads same as any bicycles and if they run out of power, I can still pedal it to get where I am going, unlike the scooters.
I have pics but haven't figured out how to post them. Will do so if anyone is interested and wants to give me help on how to do it.

edit: thanks for the help with posting pics!

Cathy

To post a pic, open a reply, and look for the upload attachment below the box you write in. The pics may be too big, I just resize mine in windows paint to get them small enough to show on the post. You can see if they are working by using the preview button.

Airstream, I had the exact same problem. I had an electric scooter which I would take with me in the RV to dog shows. Many times the RV area is quite a distance from ring side. Many people also take golf carts. I didn't want to pull a trailer, so I opted for the scooter. Later, when I started going to state and federal parks, I discovered they were banned (as well as golf carts). Bikes, however, are not. That's what initially tweaked my interest in electric bikes. Now, the electric bike interest has taken a life of it's own. At this point, I have two electric bikes and really enjoy them.

It's crazy logic for the parks to ban electric scooters. But I guess it's easier to draw a line and ban all scooters than trying to differentiate between the two. I think the original thought was to cut down on kids riding on park roads while mixing with cars/RV's, and general automotive traffic. Also the noise factor generated by a pack of scooter riding kids might have also been a factor. Now, I'm getting much more enjoyment out of the bikes than a scooter.

Hi Cathy, Can you post a weblink or contact info for the folding airstream electric bikes? I tried to find info on this bike and can't seem to.

Regards,
Gary

Hi Gary
Go to airstreamgroup.com but the airstream 811 is not yet on their website. Sears Canada has it on their website but they also show the prototype pic that does not have the handlebars it is getting as per my 1st post on this. Also the bike is all aluminum and is silver not the blue in the pic. The throttle is presently on the left on the prototype but will be changed to the right on the 811's when they are manufactured for Airstream. You can look at it if you like at sears.ca . I bought direct from Airstream and received 15% off. It was great being able to test drive it first! :D
