THIS IS FREAKING STORY BUT WILL CONTINUE TOMOROW BECAUSE I HAVE CLEAN THE BLACK DUST EVERYWHERE IN MY HOUSE I HAVE VIDEO AND PICTURE
THIS IS THE LESSON OF MY ENTIRE LIFE STAY TUNED! LITHIUM RULES NEVER EXCEED THE VOLTAGE WHEN CHARGING AND NEVER REMOVE THE CELL PROCTECTION ALSO

Wear a dust mask.

I think the people making 18650 packs from used lappy cells with unknown histories are crazy. That would include ultrafires.

Sorry to hear this man...

I bet that from different cell type than from konion or A123 cells right?

What type of clles it was?

Doc

Ouch, if I recall correctly lifepo4 forever was playing with other than lifepo4.

the dust is not so bad only on flat surface mainly in my kitchen but i have to clean the air condionning and wall where the cell exploded in my hand like a rocket

video is there

video is here rember my english is very bad sorry also i was very nervous and still today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m6ya3r6nHE&feature=youtu.be

I bought a similar light on eBay that looks very close to that. It's the Cree XM-L T6 and it came with 4 x 18650 wired together with their charger. I haven't charged mine yet but I'm going to be careful when I do.

It's interesting they say to charge lipo's in the oven. Now I think I may do just that.

Charging all your LiPo in the oven isn't a bad idea, but I think the real point of the story is not to remove the cell protection.

Remember that your cell phone uses the same battery chemistry and you wouldn't need to charge that thing in the oven because you wouldn't remove the protection!

I have had konion cells shoot fire out of the top. Freshly out of a used tool pack. Yes just carefully taken out and fire shooting out of the top.

100% agree its my fault but i tought it was my last fews second of my life when one of the cells exploded

something i forget to mention i tought there was a cut off on the charger but there only one on the battery i removed

lessson learn and i still clean the house for removing black dust ....

We are playing with fire, so we should know the fire can happen.
Charge in a safe place, monitor while charging; then all that can happen is that you will have to ditch a cell once in a while.

with umpteen billion cellphones and laptops out there all using lipo i think we can say that lipo is safe if handled properly by using a BMS to charge it like they all do.

if you wanna be like the RC guys then use the balancing charger.

every time someone bulk charges lipo without some way to monitor and control the cell voltage there is the risk that the charging can lead to overcharging.

kinda amazed he was not following the cell voltage as he charged since he was obviously not charging with a BMS to protect it..

i always monitoring sll of my charging and put lipo alarm for each pack but we talking here about a 18650 cells with a cheapo charger come with small for the headlamp

well, you inspired me to overcharge these 18650 cells and see what they did  I was sitting a few meters away from them in my garden and the pieces are everywhere in my garden now
for those that want to see the vid of these cells exploding like in "lifepo4ever's" appartment

crazy stuff those 18650 cells ;) glad I was wearing "safety" sunglasses

Yep. 18650's are nasty shrapnel throwing things when they blow. Give me pouches anyday.

tesla seems to like them, pouches would tend to all burn at once, these cells can be isolated and fire contained easier? but yeah that is nasty. when i read this i was charging a ultrafire cell on my desk with 1.0A of current (state of charge unknown) i usually stop when they get warm  ......i might change that practice now or at least i will stay home when i do it........some days i get real paranoid about fires.

edit hmm 4.7v and its not warm yet.......i guess thats enough ......... the cell is pink so i think its an emoli ?

lipo are safer than 18650 because they will not shoot you a blast of pieces of metal everywhere , they only puff with a fire and there no to much dust like 18650 does
so if you keep the lipo in a metal box you able to contain the fire inside , so best thing to do is to use metal box for the bike and when you store them in the stove there no chance you burn the house and I will show this in my next video but 18650 cell are like ammo and sure they exploded because i have the proof it happen to me!
