It's an old UO8 with cotter pin steel crank assembly.

Knowing what little I do about french thread pitches from the 70's combined with my instinct tell me "don't do it," but the rest of me really wants to.

Any experience out there?

Thanks again,

V.

PS.

Looks a lot like this bike but isn't.

Not sure if the french influenced that much thread pitches standard

The BBS drives doesn't use the internal bottom bracket threads. It just slides through the bottom bracket and is secured with an external nut. As long as the bottom bracket is ~68 mm wide and will let the BBS slide through then it should work.

The BBS kit doesn't care what pitch the thread of the BB shell is (French or otherwise) since it doesn't use the threads to mount the motor/crank assembly. From this page on Sheldon's site, it looks like your U08 is good to go with a 68mm BB shell.

Well I feel smart. One look at the Bafang kit and I could have ascertained this for myself. I think I was visualizing a GNG kit or some other assembly where the sealed BB comes with.

This is encouraging though; regardless of the fact I still can't decide what kind of setup I'm after...

Thanks guys!
