Thanks all for your help with electric bike project # 2. Motor will be Crystalyte 409 rear hub motor in 26" wheel.

What is best battery? LIGHT WEIGHT and SMALL. 72 or so volts? Want 30 MPH. Farthest trip I would take is 20 miles. Battery or batteries should be in a plastic or metal case and come with charger. Will attach batteries to bike frame. I am a pretty good fabricator and got imagination. Can modify wires and connectors if needed. Don't like the idea of batteries in cloth bags. That's too easy. Battery that mounts to water bottle bolts is best. Square or rectangle case ok too. Don't mind waiting a few months for the battery of the future. There is no $$$$ limit.

For the 'best' I can find it's the EV Tech/Point One lipo 36v 12ah (says 15ah) 10 lbs for $750. You can put two in series for 72v or EV Tech may have a 48v 20ah.

We've been discussing your very question for weeks on other forums. There are not that many choices. Others may be comming out this year but blah blah... see the Tidalforce google forum under 'best lithium or Nimh packs?'

Anything you find you must ask if it can take a 40 amp discharge with a peak of 60. Some guys are making very good packs out of Dewalt Lithium drill packs with A123 cells -- or some, 28v Emoli/Milwaukee cells.

For a ready made, proven pack now:

I've been using one hard for a year.

If you do get an EV Tech pack -- I did find, and have an aluminum channel that exactly fits it as a rack to hold it on a bottle mount.

Keep us posted

Lessss,
nuclear battery
At first I thought you were joking? Then I go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_battery "In the live action TV series Batman, atomic batteries are used to power the "Bat-mobile" made by Robin when the vehicle is deployed."

Lets forget nuclear for now. Look how much trouble Saddam Hussein got in.

Nimbuzz,

Tell me more about aluminum channel? Pictures?
