Hi Folks:

I'm looking for a good tire for the rear wheel of my e-bikes. Weight on the rear wheel is up to (100kg) and motor power is 750 watts at the wheel. Speed varies but typical cruising speed varies from 30-50 km/h with occasional pops up to 90km/h on a downhill run. I ride long distances over varying road surfaces, including an occasional dirt/gravel road. But, I'm looking primarily for a tire that grips paved roads in corners, so that means slick or almost-slick tread with minimal grooving, not knobby.

I've used the Ritchey Tom Slick (1.4x559), and it is lightweight and rolls really nicely. But, in exchange for that it is a more delicate tire, more susceptible to puncture flats and sidewall cuts.

I've recently been using the high-pressure version (100psi) of the Kenda Kwest. It's heavier and slower than the Tom Slick, but with its thicker tread is less susceptible to puncture flats and sidewall cuts. Although I inflate my rear tire up 85psi, all of my Kwests have failed prematurely with an internal ply separation or tear, creating a bulge in the tire and frequently a tear in the rubber tread, well before the rubber is worn down.

So, what have others in the e-bike community found that works well on an e-bike with similar specs: 559 diameter, 35-40mm wide, slick or semi-slick tread, 85psi, 100kg load?

Thanks.

The Hookworm would be a good tire if they made it 1.5" wide. My frame won't fit a 2.5" wide tire. But, thanks for the suggestion.

According to Maxxis's web site, they no longer offer a 559x2.5" version, only 406 or 305 diameter.

Sure they do. Here: http://www.maxxis.com/catalog/tire-472-123-hookworm
Its just listed under a different section. the 2.5 is a problem though. The DTH is available in a 2.15, if that's better.
Schwable Big Apple is another good Ebike tire.
