If its for riding on the road I would say its too much brightness.

Lots to like with the plug being a USB. Lots of bikes now have a USB port on the battery. Or run it on one of those jump starter things.

Let us know how it works on the road, is it too bright, or too hard to aim so it doesn't blind others? I use some bright crees too, but less lumens. Two cree flashlights, on rubber handlebar mounts. Part of my strategy is being able to have only one aimed high, the other aimed low. My mounts also allow adjustment right and left, so both can point slightly inward.

That light could be very nice, if both the outside beams are aimed a bit lower.

If you are actually planning on hooking that to a USB port, be aware that 18W is WAY more than most USB ports will be expecting to provide.

Typical maximum draw from a USB port ranges between 0.5A (USB 1 and 2)and 0.9A (USB 3). Even a dedicated USB Charging port (like on a wall charger) will GENERALLY only source 3A MAX.

Check the specs on the device you are planning to plug into.

Yeah its a good point about power.
It does say there 5v to 12volts which is interesting specs.
I have a single LED USB light kind of similar to this, I chopped the USB cable and just connected the two wires to bullet connectors with a dc-dc step down from my battery pack. I set my Dc-dc down to 4volts because 5 volts was too bright.

I added a pic at the start of the video so you can see the particular light I got, at the start of the video 30secs roughly you can hear a pub goer say 'what do you do at night time?' as I go past.

WAT in the world are you doing in that vid?? *shakes head in confusion*
Reminds me of a potentially entertaining social experiment or something.
My idea (no offense :D ): Turn off the light, and walk your bike when trying to get down a crowded sidewalk of walking people??

Sorry, too much coffee- and I may be biased against strobes from my days of raving and heavy metal concerts :(

Btw I use one like this- fairly cheap, bright, and runs pack voltage

Prob best for offroad at 12w spot, except I'm thinking two would be better for anything antic related

Fuuuuhhh, I just looked at your link markz. That thing looks way better than mine in all ways with the exception of needing to figure a powersupply for it. 18w, better spread, more compact, less $, headband . . . Why does it have an est usage time of 2-3hours if there's no battery, and as stated, how can a standard usb provide enough power?

Dumb question, but what are the chances it will run on 80v? Anybody ever tried?

Where is a good place to see that halogen for sale sans?

Yes i have 2x 80v from Forklift power current 0,6A per light

Well the lane I start riding down does take cars believe it or not. if you notice the end where the main road is its got barriers red all over it which had been put up that day I couldn't believe or comprehend what was going on. Once I got on the main road the light did protect me from getting doored. Collins st is famous for getting doored.

I don't know if you bothered to watch my whole video but it's the exact same spot .

Here is the full unedited version, basically the doorer is telling the cyclist to f-off and die. When hes later put on TV he turns all nice..

Same I do not get that video.
Front strobe lighting going down a street. What if some child was walking by and stared right into your light?
I get pissed at people who drive straight at you with high beams on.

You get fined for not wearing a helmet or strobes lights on a bike in Australia, never read the news? http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/melbourne-police-officers-pull-up-arnold-schwarzenegger-for-riding-a-bike-without-a-helmet-20150316-1m0s5c.html

Yeah I did, that's when I felt even more inclined to apologize

Wtf annnd that's why I should have not been a putz, I had no clue. This world is a mess

Duh, I get it now, the light has a battery inside it. The USB just charges it. So it still would work with a USB equipped battery pack, or other device for charging phones etc.

Two of this one, if you like the idea of one beam aimed high, the other lower.

Looking at their drop down menu, the more expensive ones with less lights list batteries in the details. I question whether the 3 light and single that have been linked come with a battery. They look different, are priced lower, and don't have the same details as the others?
Also, on many devices that don't rely on outside power except for charging, you'll usually note a female port, not a hefty wire?

Confused.

You've totally missed the relevant point of that news article. It has nothing to do with helmets.

Terminator on a bicycle!!!!

I like my Costco light, 1300 Lumens for $15.

I found these lights, I have no clue what the Cree acronyms mean, if one is better then the other.

Well my ebike light just got stolen in the last 24 hours while locked up in the underground secure car park which has about 8 cameras..
I emailed this pic to the building care taker security camera guy but I dont know if anything will come of it.. This is the 3rd time someones pintched stuff off my ebike while its supposady securely locked up in the underground carpark everytime I ask them to go through the video cameras they said they see nothing..

Just some open wires where the cable used to come up from the frame battery pack bag to where the light used to be mounted on the handle bars..
I can't get over the fact someone would bother stealing an $8 bike light, I can only assume they thought it was expensive.

I think this device which is stripped of its housing and wired inside my batterypack saved the rest of the bike.. I know some think these are lame but this wireless version has proven to be very convenient and reliable.. https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10011157/1957306-yy-610a-electric-bike-bicycle-anti-theft-security

That sucks and its all too common.

These days if I'm leaving a bike in a public place unattended, regardless of locking mechanism, its a total beater and I take anything I can off it, lights included.

This was after a thief meticulously nicked things off my partners bike... same deal... security guards just want to clip the ticket and go home. The thief really took their time as they unscrewed everything rather than just smashing or ripping it off the bike....

Worst part is - they obviously feel comfortable operating there and I'd be surprised if they don't come back for more.

Makes me wonder if you need a tiny camera of your own, activated by the bike wobbling whilst off?

I actually asked for the video that points down to where my car/bike is locked up.. Its pretty much the shittest camera setup for good video.. They have cameras focusing on all entry/exits though.
I found the video of the guy.. he ripped off my bike light a bit after midnight. I don't think I will bother chasing up video for exits or going any further with it as it's already been a bit of work..
I am just somewhat satisfied seeing some dumbarse run from my bike after the vibration alarm went off after he pulled off my light.

Great that you managed to get the footage.. wow looks like they deliberately went out of their way to attend it and steal off it.

Definitely time to install a spy cam somewhere...
