So. Idea stinks? (Pun intended.) hehe

I think this is a great idea! Especially since you can now just copy the decal.

So, you come back to your bike, which has not been stolen, but the broken lock makes the user vomit?

Now what?

Sometimes, you have to think these things through.

And now you have a bike that makes you vomit too

Exactly, there is also an ambulance, six sick pedestrians who just happened to be walking past and a policeman who wants you to "come down to the station for a little talk" about releasing noxious gasses on city streets as well as an attorney with a lawsuit. If you are lucky, they won't have evacuated the entire block as a safety measure while the anti-terrorism police do a search for more "devices". On the positive side, you will get to be on TV.

Lol, I went looking for a protection more true to the 'skunk' name.

Several were amusing,

This grrrl just leaves her cat tied up to her bike. So far, so good...

Why aren't their more alarms built into U-locks? Has a thief ever really persisted through a loud alarm tone? Abus needs to put alarms in their locks.

Stick an exploding ink cartridge in there too and you're good to go.

Apparently, a simple stun gun fries most electronics in locks.

Hehe... Really not sure many/most thieves are so equipped.

Still more a fan of the (hidden) GPS tracker... That thing about catching rather than detering?
[insert extra wink here]

Frequent false alarms have desensitized people to their use. Many people are so fed up with them that they favor the thief over the owner. I know of one case that store's alarm system went off several nights each week and stayed on until the owner came in the next morning to shut it off. It was said that when the store was actually broken into that the police would not respond and the neighbors helped the thieves load their trucks. I lived a short distance away and was not in the least disappointed when the store went out of business.

We've all dreamed of getting revenge on a thief, but this may be a little much.

Drop This Fact
A recent study in Montreal found that half of all cyclists had had their bike stolen and only 2.4% had been recovered.

So do you. Stink = Temporary. Theft = Permanent. I'd rather puke than lose another bike.

Our son has friends in Houston, they found their stolen bikes, went to the HPD. HPD suggested they buy their own bikes back.

HPD were also less than useless with stolen motorcycles that I know of. Motorcycles and thieves found, HPD would do nothing at all. Zero.

If you had a tracker on your bike and found it, getting it back depends on having a friend who is a cop or on the whim of the PD. Whim. Calling a TV station news department would be more effective than calling the PD.

Edit to add, a Skunk Lock exposes the user to criminal and civil liability. Again, whim is involved.

Maybe an anti-theft alarm is a better idea?

.... I have been told that the major problem with recovery through law enforcement is a simple matter of proving ownership, with no title or serial number. Anybody have any useful input on this issue? My thought was to put my business card into the seat tube, better than nothing. ...
Excellent point. The police/legal system can do nothing without 'probable cause' and proof. I know that in other places that I have lived the PD had a bicycle auction twice a year to dispose of bicycles that they had recovered and could not identify the rightful owners. Inside the handlebar is another place you can put a business card.

Note one or more identifiable, obvious, external features that is unique about your bicycle. Keep a picture of your bicycle as well. Many bicycles have a serial number stamped into the frame on the bottom side of the bottom bracket ... keep a record of it along with proof of purchase.
