hey guys and gals. ive had a huge love for old school ground shaking boomboxes since i got a small mini boombox in 1991 for my brother and i to share for Christmas.
and modern ipod bluetooth smooth beveled white and clinical boomboxes just dont work for me... something about them dosnt appeal

so... i thought ebay will the answer.. but the cost of cause has hit collectible level and out of my budget

i figure ill build my own boombox.. i just dont know where to begin

so.. any advice would be appriciated

i guess... it has to be portable...id prefer rechargable "D cells arnt cheap these days"

Well, you could go all the way back, to the original ghetto blaster. The first boomboxes were car 8 tracks but the owner had no car. The box held speakers, and ran on a presumably stolen car battery. Now of course the stereo would have a cd player, or ipod. Run it on lipo of course.

Another approach would be higher end computer speakers. They usually run on DC power, and an ipod will plug right into one.

Look for a Class T amplifier, they used switching power supply technology so they are far more power efficient than the old '70s and '80s amps. I bought a bare board amp from http://www.sureelectronics.net/ and it worked great until I dropped a screwdriver on it and fried something. Guess I should have made an enclosure

Be careful out there... a Boom Box is not a toy!
