Boosted Dual+ vs Evolve Carbon AT vs Marbel

Hi All,

New member and I'm looking for some feedback/help. I currently own a boosted dual+ and love the board. However, my biggest problem with it is that I only get about 7 kms (~4 miles) out of it and it is not water resistant. I live in the pacific northwest where it gets a little damp throughout the winter months and I would like to ride year round. Since the boosted is not water resistant, I'm debating on whether or not to buy a evolve carbon AT or put a deposit down on a marble board.

Can anyone share their experience or insight into how they feel about their Evolve board? I'm 6'2" and weigh 220lbs and a little concerned that the Evolve board will not have the power i need to get me up some hills. I love the AT wheel option and the flexibility they offer in terms or riding conditions etc. however, I've also heard some QC issues with the board.

Any thoughts or feedback would greatly be appreciated!

Cheers,

FUNBOSS

Most boards can be made mostly water resistant with rubber coatings like liquid tape etc.

I would be most concerned about wheel grip.

If your riding in wet then its going be slip and slide with regular skate wheels.

Problem with the boosted is that both the motors are out-runners and are exposed to the elements. If any water gets in there the motors are toast, or soon enough! The electronics/battery are also prone to damage. Not worth it, not to mention the range is still a problem. I primarily use the board in parks etc so it won't be ridden aggressively in wet conditions.

Any one else that can share their experience with a carbon AT? Close to pulling the trigger on one and debating whether or not to wait for the marbel.....

You most likely won't be riding in a lake or river so a bit of splash here and there is ok. I ride in rain since I don't want to walk or take the bus. After a while I won't get traction going uphill but flat ground still works great.

I think a dual motor is best for hill climbing.

Most of us a DIY'ERS

So of course we will inevitably say "build your own"

Your a big dude.... I think a single motor will be a problem.

Outrunners generally can handle water spray... just don't submerge them.

It's best not to get your battery and esc wet though. It could short out and blow up.

So an enclosure that is sealed well is a good idea. My new CF deck is closed on the bottom except for rear facing slot for motor wires. So water spray from the wheels & splashes can't get inside. The top mount lid is sealed to prevent rain drops entering.

got a DIY and Evolve Carbon street. I just like to pick the Evolve deck (which is my girlfriends deck) for a ride. Really smooth, stealth controller.. the deck is really eye catching and performs flawlessly. I just like it. On the other side, there's a HUGE difference, it's not even a difference; it's just not the same... with my 12S Dual Diagonal 63mm setup. With the DIY setup I can accelerate when climbing massive hills. This is just ridiculous. The torque is also not comparable. Nothing can beat a rocket.

If you are "heavy" and have some hills... DIY is the way to go with a dual diagonal setup (one motor will push, the other will pull)... and pick a high voltage (12S ideally).

I did a really short (p)review on the Evolve Carbon street here : http://www.e-sk8.fr/2015/01/15/evolve-carbon-street-review/

you can also see the difference with a 7S setup and a good old nunchuck. I let you imagine with 12S !

I also bought at a bargain the Evolve AT kit... Honestly, I just don't like it. Makes the ride bulky and your miles coverage is just wasted.

enjoy !

been driving boosted and evolve ... and probably one of the biggest evolve carbon AT fan. I tend to drive intermediate to long distances (15-40km) with my board, so boosted has never been a real option for me. imo the evolve carbon is too stiff for street tires (depends on pavement of course), but simply the bomb with the pneumatic wheels.

the customize & pimpability is pretty high on the evolve AT ... there is a lot of things you can change to make the board better and better. Ive come a pretty long way really:

* DIY battery with double capacity in stock case
* 200€ worth of bushings tested until I reached my dream setup
* riptide wfb pivots
* abec7 bearings with MBS aluminum rims
* sealing tape for the carbon case
* aluminum grab handle from alien drive systems
* absolutely spot on belt tension

right now I cannot think of any detail that would make the board any better really. its simply a gorgeous looking long distance carving machine and pneumatic wheels are a total gamechanger that opens up many roads and tours (especially spontanous "oh, lets take this way" moments) that you would otherwise not even consider. loving it <3

some impressions:

current board with MBS aluminum rims, speed ring adapters and abec7 bearings, in the back you can see the aluminum handle with 3 screws

DIY battery with 20.4Ah for 50km+ range on AT wheels

beautiful aluminum handle from alien drive systems, its perfect for some stairs or getting your board into the office with style and without screwing up your clothes ;p

riptide wfb pivot cups and mix of riptide krank 87 and bones hardcore medium front, riptide krank 93 and bones hardcore medium hard on rear

Incredible feedback - thank you all!!

I almost pushed the button to buy the marbel board last night. I'm glad I came to this board for some feedback. Looks like I'm going to go with the evolve all terrain and get the street option too. Looks like this board will give me a good platform to which i can work off and make modifications down the road. I love the ingenuity and creativity I see with all the recent posts.

Has there been anyone who has upgraded the motor on the evolve with any success?

hehe, good choice :)

the motor is one of the best things about the evolve, you can barely hear it at all, its just a dark hum compared to the angry bee outrunner motors of the DIY community. its not a torque monster, it will get up most hills but not like a boosted dual+ ... but its just doings whats needed to enjoy your long distance carving adventure without any annoyances.
