i hope this is the right place to post this.

when i ran across this i thought i would share the info since some of you may have a need to weld tabs onto the battery cells.

http://hackaday.com/2009/06/23/how-to-build-your-own-spot-welder/#more-11565

uses the transformer from a microwave oven and what looks like #8 or #6 wire and some wood scraps and metal scraps.

good for spot welding nice big chunks of sheetmetal but is not really capable of the finess required for battery tabs. sorta like using a 12lb sledge to drive brad nails.

but it is a nice project if you need to spotweld sheetmetal. could be improved by the addition of a 0 to 3 second timer and a footswitch. that way you could set the thickness of the material you are welding.

it would have to be modified to work.

either by using wider/thicker tabs for the cells or using nails for the electrodes instead of the bits of metal used.

it was just an idea i thought i would suggest.
