Sorry, I am a complete noob. As the title says, due to financial issues I am using a 36 volt Lead Acid battery on my current bike. My charger died and I have a spare LI-Ion charger from a dead 36v Li-ion pack I had sitting around. Will this Li-ion charger safely charge my Lead acid battery? I have seen the opposite question asked many times (can I charge my Li-Ion with my LA charger), but I am going the other way.

Thanks
Greg

Caution. Many 36V li-ion chargers charge to 42V. A typical full charge for a 12v sla battery is 13.5V, so if you leave that hooked up to your 36V sla battery pack for long, it will cook it. No reason you can't use it. Just be aware of what might happen if left charging too long if the max charge voltage is over 40V. There should be spacs on the charger. Read them. It may or may not be a type that shuts off automatically.

Most lithium chargers will not have a float charge. So when the charger does shut off, it may not be completely charged and the voltage may drop to a level that is not overcharging the pack.

Try it and see, find out what the voltage is, after the charger shuts off. Find out what the real world actual voltage of this charger is. It may have changed some since you bought it.

But no particular danger involved IMO. It will not float charge your battery though, so if you charge with it, no point in leaving it connected after the light turns green.
