Can I use a 16s BMS, in a 10s4p Battery pack?

Hey everyone,
I have a BMS which is a 16S 60V 35A BMS and I am making a 10s4p pack. I wonder if I can use this 16S BMS for my 10s pack - if I only connect the 10 balance wires from the BMS and leave the other wires disconnected, will it work?

You'd have to check the manufacturer model-specific connection diagram for that specific BMS.

Some of them can be used for less than the full cells, but which specific wires to connect, and how, are different for different ones.

You'll also need to be using it with the same chemistry cells it was made for, so that it's various cell-level limits are correct for them. If you use it on a different chemistry, then if it has different high or low voltage limits, this BMS may not be able to protect the cells from damage.

You'll also need to use it on a pack that has the same charge *and* discharge current (A) limitations, or better, than the pack it was designed for. If you use it on one that is less capable, it can't protect it against overcurrent and the cells can be damaged, which could lead to a fire.
