Hey Folks,

I am trying to pull together a list of all of the E bike competitions for 2011.

So Far, I am aware of a few events, including:

Mount Washington hill climb, Alternative vehicle day. E bikes allowed access to climb mountain.
Pikes Peak, Ride to the Sky, E bikes allowed to enter and Climb.
PIR, Human power Challenge, E power Challenge, E bike racing.Track and Drag strip, Open class racing.
Arizona?
Video drag racing...?
California hill climb?

More info to follow...Ideas? Events? Interest?...

Peace, Josh K.

Josh,

This is a good idea. Things are starting to happen, but the scene is fragmented and an authoritative list of events really is needed. But please don't limit the list to US events; if you can get a worldwide list together that would be great.

Have a look around ES. There's an April Death Race in Arizona being planned, and we're also talking about a "World Challenge" in the summer.

Josh:

I'm helping organize a long-distance event in central California this Saturday. 100 miles or 100 km on a moderately hilly out and back course.

It's not too late to register, and it looks like we'll squeak it in before we get Winter Part II.

Any dates for these events? Great job getting together what you have. It would totally awesome to have one calendar to look at and see everything everyone has submitted.

I can give you race dates of electrathon racing here in Florida if you are interested in adding that.

Josh, you can add these date to your callander.

http://thunderdrome.com/the-championship/

if 3 e-bikes show up they will create a "class" for them....

Untill then I will be racing against modified 75cc mopeds

the Tuscon race is Aprill 16th.

Wow Thud! The race in Hickory Corners is just up the lane from where I was raised on a farm in Delton. Would be fun if I could make it to the Gilmore Museum race. Kind of a stretch for me to do it this year. For now, it is only a dream, but maybe....

These fellas running Thunder Drome have gotten themselves organised very quickly
alot happening since i saw the first event advertised decent website, a handful of sponsors
written rules & classes, the guys organizing the Death Race in Tuscan should take a few
pointers from them.

You might have your hands cut out here ThudSTeR, against the 100cc 4 stroke pitbikes and 75cc two stroke jobies
Team Thud must keep thei eyez on the prize in Tuscan before planing an all out assault on the Thunder Drome ;)

I'm organizing a trip out of Rochester to Detroit for THUNDERDROME II (http://www.thunderdrome.com) We'll most likely cut through Canada, so if anyone in along the way, in Ontario wants to join in and split gas/hotel with the rest of us let me know, est cost is going to be about 100 bones, and we'll have a trailer that should be able to accommodate any ebikes you might have to bring along.

PM me for details.(in case I miss this thread)

Cool Beanz G,
Looking foward to seeing you there....I am assuming the April 30th date.

Yeah, that's for the April 30th date. The following date I can't make because Ill be on my way to Iceland, but hopefully I can make it in the fall too.

Details are still sketchy, but it looks promising. If I get my buddy Matt to show up, we should be able to have an ebike category for sure. I look forward to being left in your dust

How about another Anti Gravity Event, The event pictured was held in 2003 at the marin headlands. Great way to kill a motor or to help develop a cooling system. This evemt was sponsored by an ebike shop and a predecessor to the Endless Sphere forum.

I was one of the organizers for that Hill Climb race that Mr. Electric just mentioned.

We can get the same spot again and do a race if there are people out there who are interested.

I think we should have a weight class category, and have some kind of voltage limit to keep speed from getting excessive. At that hill climb in 2003, in one race we hit 50 mph going uphill (there is picture of the starting line of that race..i am on the 72v 150 pound jackal) ...crazy. BUt we should still have a "unlimited" category but riders should wear plenty of protective gear :)

Would bay area people out there be interested in doing some kind of hill climb race?

Good idea we should have weight classes. All I know for sure is the optibikes will get killed by bmc powered bikes. Watch this

Willow Springs Race 18th SoCal. Look it up, there are a couple of threads started about it.

Good luck on trying to get commitments. People have as many excuses as snow flakes and many change their minds at the last minute. Again, not a profession, seems like everything else takes priorty. I'm talking both gasser friends and electric friends it's just hard to keep them focused and show up.

I agree with evoforce on this one...

I just did a hill climb event in SF and some of my best friends flaked out last minute...

I have been thinking that people would rather be in front of their computers typing or be on the tv than be in the great outdoors racing their ebikes.

I had like only 14 bikes show up...but we all had a blast...

But all the flakes really pissed me off.

Including a local ebike dealer who promised me 3 times he was going to show up with multiple bikes...and show up early to help me organize...a no show.

Another ebike dealer who promised to bring 2 powerful machines flaked last minute as well...he went from for sure...to the night before "i am not making any promises" to not showing up at all.

Almost not worth doing an event with all the flakes...but we did have a blast...so i will try one more time.

I guess the trick is to charge $100 and collect the money in advance...do the event for free and you get flakes.

I understand your frustration xtremegreen. Wished that I could have made your event. Maybe next time I can join in on the fun. A lot of what you say is true about tv and internet consuming peoples lives. I don't know where else that you posted your event but you know how international ES is. Local advertising of this event would probably help. Once it gets it's reputation going a little, it may not need as hard of a paddle shock. Also the events section of this forum doesn't get the same viewing numbers as the e-bike general posting section. Your event might get so big you may have to clear it with the park service in the future. I don't think we had quite that many e-bikes at the last Death Race. I am really hoping that the turnout at these events will increase in the future. If people would just get their bodies to these events they would see how fun it is!

Oh absolutely, but the CAD drawings we get to look at on ES as a result are
kinda cool, pitty most of it never sees it to the workshop though   ..
