GRIN e bike kits (see website ebikes.ca) seem very good.

Can anyone please recommend a bike shop in Vancouver BC that they are happy with for installing GRIN e-bike kits?

I should add a comment on my very narrow application context. I am looking to convert a touring bike to an e bike, looking for a quiet motor solution, with regenerative braking and an integrated torque sensor and using the new superharness kit.

If you have done that i would particularly like to hear from you. Did you go to the ALL AXEL V3 kit, with the superharness kit? If not, then what system did you go to? Thank you, RJ

How fast do you want to go, for how long, and what kind of hilliness will there be in your route?

Main question is on the Vancouver bicycle shop kit installers question. Anybody have some experience there?

How fast - 32 kmph assisted is max for e bikes in Canada. I don't need to go up hills light lightning. I am bicycle touring, just want assist on the hills with good range from the battery.
How far and elevation - my favorite day ride is 100km and 1200 meters elevation gain.

The " which system to get" question is secondary. I am leaning to the all axel v3.....but now they have come out with freegen so i wonder how to compare a system with freegen to the all axel v3 motor and a 20AH battery.

Set up now - i have a touring bike with the 250 watt Bafang G310 and a 13.5 watt hour batter and cycle analysist. On steep routes the Bafang overheats, and the 13.5 amp hour battery is barely enough for my 100km favorite ride. The PAS sensor is glued on to a chainring and has fallen off once. I like the throttle as using only that extends range. Battery is stretched for the 100k ride but fine for all my rides under 75km, from the way i use it, which is only on the hills. The cycle analyst display is something out of star treck, competent but unsightly, wondering how well the dispay with GRIN's more recent super harness kit functions for my simpler needs.

I don't think you need the help of a bike shop at all but i bet grin would be able to direct you to one.
Their stuff is very easy to install/tune.

All axle is a very simple install, also very nice tire changes and for a DD hub, it's light. They also fixed the issues from the previous generation so it's a good time to buy.

If you don't think you can benefit from regen, and you're going to run legal speeds, then a Shengyi SX2 would be a great pick, significantly lighter, way more capable of handling hills, very efficient, and inexpensive. The freewheeling and lower weight will appeal to the bicyclist in you. It's also substantially more efficient than the bafang, especially in the same hill conditions, so expect a minor range extension.

Freegen is cool but i suspect it will take a few generations of the technology to get it right. I'd buy something simple and reliable for a long range commuter and keep the experimental things on a second bike that you can afford to have fail :)

I have no experience with the superharness other than to say, it's cool and i'm glad Grin's stuff is able to interface with new displays & things. Some members here had problems with the first batch, but they're onto the revised version.

Thank you neptronix for your reply.

Re my main ask - help to identify a bike shop in Vancouver BC for GRIN hub motor install.
Asking as I am not doing the install. And a shop with experience can give good information on a variety of issues. If someone out there can shed some information from their Vancouver BC bike shop experience, i would appreciate the information.

re Install is easy.......While install may be easy....deciding on what to install and what to watch out for is not easy. Reading the comments on this link illustrates the complexity:

Thanks for insights between ALL AXEL vs Shengyi SX2 . you have got me thinking....thank you.....
regen capability - yes, so i would go to All Axel
compare weight All Axel 4 kg / dia is Shengyi weight 2.95 kg difference is ~1 kg.
compare motor dia: All axel is 214mm (8.5"). Shengyi is 141mm 5.5". Difference is 3", so radius is 1.5" larger.
wire exit. all axel is side exit, YES. Shengyi is out the axel..... wish to avoid that.
Drive direct or geared: Direct All axel and geared Shengyi
Thinking about the above, leaning to All Axel.

I appreciate a light and quiet solution. And ability of system not to overheat.
How well does All Axel v3 perform for not overheating and being quite?
How well does its Freegen freewheeling system work? .
......anyone?
Thank you,
RK

Google bike mechanics around your place and call them. Unfortunately many might refuse, so be prepared for that.
