EDIT: 6th August 2012. I found a solution to the whole gearbox sprag clutch problem. The answer is here:

To fix my problem with my V3 Elation kit (see my other posts if you want the back ground) I contacted the Concord Sports Store (they use to install the Elation kits) to get advice. The mechanic there said the slipping issue somewhere between the motor and the output sprocket is most likely the sprague clutch.

He said to pull it apart and take the gear box to a bearing shop so they can measure it up and get what's required.
He also said the motor on these were very powerful. That's encouraging! He may have been suggesting the power was enough to cause the sprague clutch trouble.

I rang a local bearing place and they said bring it in they'll measure it up and have no trouble getting a replacement.

The gear on the sprag is keyed to the sprag so I'm hoping that can match on so that I can keep the outer race of the sprag and not have to get anymore keying done.

Almost Christmas and this wont happen till the New year now! Doh.

Maybe good news for you Stumper, hope it works out.
Keep us informed. :)

I think the motor can output over 400 watts.

Oh dear! There is no inner race on this sprague. The inner race is actually the shaft. It's totally a custom made thing and the bearing shops just look at it and shrug...... what to do next?

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the Elation kits use the same motor and planetary gears as the cyclone kits just with better mounts etc :?:
IIRC cyclone tw sell the planetary heads separately 8)

Google cyclone tw and have a look....

What size is the shaft? Does the shaft look ok?

Thanks, yes I have tried to figure out what might be suitable from Cyclone. But Elation went through many different options. As you can see from the photo in my opening post the model I have is not a planetary gear system. The centre shaft from the motor goes through the gears box to deliver an off centred output sprocket. That off centred sprocket is critical to make the whole system work (ie the motor is in a fixed position with it's clever mounting bracket which is quite nice, but it means none of that can be used if it has a centrally located output shaft from the gear box. I'd need a whole new mounting system as well - which I guess i may have to consider. Rotating the motor within the mount changes the tension on the motor chain, which is the required effect. Rotating the motor on a centre out put shaft would not change the chain tension at all).
Cheers

Hi. The shaft looks fine. It's 16mm by my measurement. Thanks
