Hi, I have a electric kick scooter that runs on a 48V2300W motor, 50A-100A 48V controller and a 48V39ah lithium ion battery pack BMS rated at 30A-60A. The scooter runs well for the first 5km but then dies off after that. I then realised that the controller unit heated up quite a bit in that journey, and after waiting for 10-15mins, the scooter can run again but this time for not as much as 5km.

Is this a case of controller overheating? If so, what might be causes and how can i avoid it? If not, is it possible that the controller has some issues? TIA!

I swear I read the same a week before.
-take a multimeter and make measurement to the battery when it happen.
-It should be 75% chance to be a smoked fet on the controller if the battery doesn't heat up
-15% bad wiring/connector.
-5% anything else like anything bad on the motor as a short, if the motor also heats up

Thanks for your reply! the battery does not heat up when it happens.

Does it mean if by replacing a controller, it will be fine? or is my set up causing it to have those problems? Assuming wiring and motor is fine that is...

On a side note, if the controller is rated at 50A and my battery is 30A. Will it affect the system at all? or does it just mean that I wont get the full torque?
