I have an electric wheelbarrow that is not working. It’s 48v with 1000W motor. I need to replace controller and need to identify correct one. It has a thumb throttle control with fwd/rev switch and power display. It has a brake handle that has to be held down to move…release activates electro magnetic brake. The attach photos show what it looks like. I cannot figure out the controller wires that go to the electromagnetic brake that is mounted to the motor. There are two black wires from brake that connect to the controller orange plug and then a black and red wire into the controller.

Any help would be appreciated. The company I bought it from is no help even though it’s under warranty.

There’s a few ways it could be implemented, which will affect controller selection and whether you need to invert the signal via programmable controller, incorporating a relay, or substituting the switch from NC to NO or vice versa.

First step is to determine whether it’s normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO). Simplest method is via a multimeter continuity test on the brake switch wires. For a NC switch you’d see zero resistance without brake lever pressed, and infinite with it closed.
