At the top of the course, Rhys Millen continued to best all comers with the Latvian megawatt electric racer from Drive eO, turning in an impressive 2:22.20 time. Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima was second (2:34.19) in his Rimac-powered Monster Sport E-Runner, a strong 17-plus seconds quicker than the fire-spitting Open Attack1 Porsche of Jeff Zwart.

2:22 is mind blowing, considering that the best record time for a 4 wheeled vehicle last year was 9:05 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norma_Auto_Concept#Pikes_Peak )

I think it's pretty safe to say that electric will win the race this year and continue to dominate!

Here are the 2014 results, by the way:

Seems pretty certain that an electric vehicle will win the 4 wheel category this year

Sweet! I believe that would make the DriveEO the 4th fastest car in Pike Peak history.
(Rhys claims the car is capable of 8:38 in the video!! )

Sebastien Loeb 8:13.878 (Peugeot, gas)
Rhys Millen 9:02.192 (Hyundai, gas)
Romain Dumas 9:05.801 (Norma, gas)
Rhys Millen 9:07.222 (DriveEO, electric)
Greg Tracy 9:08.188 (Mitsubishi, electric)

^-- that's awesome! i love the giant RC motor sound that thing makes!! obviously spinning into the 10,000's :)

When watching the video, I think Rhys is being conservative in his estimates of 8:30s. The car looks like it pulls completely differently at the bottom. Spooky fast. If he could have a few runs at it with both motors running full time, I think Loebs' record would be in peril. Interested to hear what went wrong.
