From the ashes of defeat...

To salvage some of the time/work/materials put into this build http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14788, I'm modifying the triangle enclosure to fit my trusty old Fetish Obsession frame. This is the bike I've been riding for 1200+ electrified miles with a standard rear hub kit from ampedbikes. As it was sitting, I had the controller and wiring mounted to the seatpost and I used 4 Boshc fatpacks in a backpack set-up. The batts plugged into the pigtail coming off teh seatpost.

There's a five speed freewheel on teh hub, but I found I only used top gear. The cheap 99 cent falcon shifter I got from Nashbar works if you need to limp home in a lower gear, but I wouldn't recommend it for regular shifting duties- no index, friction shift.

The acrylic box just hides excess wires.

The whole rig weighs in at 42.9 pounds.

Advantages of this set-up/frame:
- Horizontal dropouts, very secure hub mounting even with the short torque arms
- Relatively light-weight
- Relatively stealthy
- Rigid frame, responsive

Disadvantages:
- Annoying battery disconnects when the cable gets snagged
- Fully rigid frame, rough ride
- Batts in a backpack add more wight to rider and another step in the getting ready to ride situation
- Very rear end heavy with no batts to balance hub motor

So I scrapped the plan to recycle the battery case from the Ignition build, just too many cuts and welds. Here's the old Iggy case:

I fabbed up a new case out of lighter gauge sheet metal.

The fetish frame without the case:

I used two of these 1" pipe clamps with nylon spacers to secure the top of the battery case to the top tube and one calmp without spacers to secure the seatpost to the back of the battery case:

The controller is bolted to the seatpost side of the battery case:

This shows the pipe clamps installed with the brake and derailleur cables run inside:

The battery installed. It's a 6 pack of Bosch Fatpacks. The bar that you see across the battery bolts to two 1/4" coupling nuts that are welded to the battery case- it seems pretty secure:

Other side of the case. You can see the two pieces of steel rod I bent and welded to the top in order to secure the excess wiring. This should keep the connectors secure and quiet:

Now she's ready for some shakedown testing runs:

This bike will be a general around town and occasional singletrack trail runner. Once I'm certain the metal portion of the case is in it's final configuration, I plan to add two pieces of plexy (maybe lexan) to box in the battery case and finish it off. Should be pretty durable and hopefully crash-worthy- I'll report back.
