UBC Electric Car Club eBeetle VW, completed the 6472 km in just over 14 days of driving with a scheduled one-day stop in Toronto for minor repairs and media events and an unplanned two-day stop in Quebec to wait out the passage of Hurricane Earl.

No, at least 2 solar vehicles have done it in the past 10 years: Queens University and the Power of One.

This beetle claims to be the first solely battery vehicle to do it; but I wouldn't be surprised if someone did it in the early 1900's.
