Just as a curiosity question, what is better for conversion in general: fixed speed bicycles or multiple speed bikes?

I had my ebikekit version going the other day and when the motor was fully engaged it took nearly no force at all to pedal. At 30mph or so, would there be an advantage to a geared bike or doesn't it matter?

I have had my eye on this one for a while:

Lots of room in the triangle for batteries and such, I like the handlebars and I like that flat black color... not so sure about the chrome-moly fork and a powerful motor though.

Any thoughts?
