I just took delivery on a Golden Motor Canada Prokit 901 Front Hub 20". Thanks, Gary, it came in 9 days and everything is there. However, I can't find any indication of which way the motor spins. So before I mount the tire (and the hub), can anyone tell me if the cables come out the right or left side of the wheel/bike/fork? If this belongs in Technical, please feel free to move it.
Thanks, BothellBob

Here's a post from icecube57's 2009 Golden Motor thread where his pictures start so you can see on which side the wire exits the motor.

Thank you, Mark. I had seen that photo and I would not be surprised that Golden Motor plumbs all their hub motors to feed out the left side. The 901 kit currently has a motor that looks more like the one posted on Gary Salo's GM Canada site: http://www.goldenmotor.ca/products/20-Inch-Front-PRO-901-Conversion-Kit.html
I will be a lot more confident if someone who has actually installed a recent 901 kit could confirm from their personal experience.
I know I could just install the wheel and see what happens, but if I can avoid the 50% chance of having to disassemble, turn the tire around, and remount the wheel; that would be my choice.

Convention is to put the wires on the left side, and disk brake mounts are typically on that side of the motor. However the 901 can spin either direction. It makes not one bit of difference which way you mount it. If it spins the wrong way for your use, just swap any 2 phase wires and and a couple hall wires the direction will be corrected.

I had three motors with GM part numbers on them. 500W rear had wires coming out left side. 1000W rear has wires coming out right side. Don't remember which side on the front front motor. Pick a side and see if it's right. If not , it won't take long to change it.

I can report that the ProKit 901 front hub motor that I purchased in the spring of 2014 works as intended when the power wires feed out the left side of the fork (as seen from the rear). Experience encourages me to add that a torque arm should be installed. The RANS Stratus has very good steel, but it wasn't enough. Fortunately it failed when braking at a very slow speed.
Thank you all, -BothellBob
