So I'm thinking I want way more than the 32gb of ram in the $5,000 Mac that I'd rather not pay $5,000 for, what with wanting Dante AV, etc. Video editing, audio mixing, graphic design; resource hogs one and all.

Anybody have their own custom Mac?

I run OSX in a VM under VMWare workstation to provide occasional support for mac peoples, and once installed and configured it's very solid.

Performance is not an issue even in the virtual environment, and as long as you build a system with supported hardware you should have yourself a really nice "Mac" at a much better price than Apple is willing to provide.

Apple has really fallen behind in their desktop offerings, if you want the best hardware platform for running OSX you're really not left with much choice but to go elsewhere nowadays.

I do not know much about Hackintosh, but I know its easier to install in a UEFI bios like Gigabyte. The newer graphics cards good to have in the 700 series and up, and R9-200 series on up.

Not my thang, but yeah you can do dual boot as far as I am aware.

TBH I dont pay any attention to this area or computers.

Ever see one with atouchscreen?

Do you do these with a dual boot?

Yes and Yes.

Do your research before buying, but afaik the majority of laptop touchscreens will work out of the box.

Support for multiple boot OSs is a function of UEFI, so you can easily put Windows or Linux on the same box, or not.
