Hey Guys,

Ordered this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252782775886?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

and I have a hole with a thread on the bike's dropout where my sram derailleur used to be.

The question is, what kind of screw do I need? it needs to be that kind with a weird mechanism and spring.
That single speed derailleur in the link has a hole and on one side of the hole there is a place for the spring to be mounted on (I think thats what it is) it kind sticks out a bit while the other side is leveled with the hole.

Pictures might help others to answer the question.

This tensioner has a spring of its own, and will mount on your derailer hanger with the screw that is likely to be included with it.

No screw included with it.....

Then it will mount with the derailer screw. That is the same size as a chainring screw.

No good...it's a long screw with thread at the end while my single speed derailleur is about 2mm thin

You will have to buy a short chainring screw, or any screw with the same thread, maybe use one or two washers. That should be easy to find at your local bike shop. I never bought a chain tensioner that didn't have the mounting screw included in the box. My favourite is the Shimano Alfine, because it does have a very strong spring and fully adjustable.

I'm confused - is the OP asking for another means to mount this other than intended?

Just looking at the pictures, this is an axle mount chain guide for single speed bikes with track fork ends (horizontal dropouts).

I guess you are right, by the pictures. All chain tensioners that I've had were made to mount on the derailer hanger. I never considered the axle mount type.

Derailleur hanger thread is M10x1.0, but chainrings use M8x0.8.

Hollow rear axles are M10x1.0, if that helps.

For what it's worth, the chain drive will work and wear better, and resist skipping, if the tensioner pushes upward, increasing the amount of wrap around the sprockets.

Yeah just noticed today that it's intended for mounting on the axle (which is a tiny one since it's intended for a small folding bike) while my axle is 14mm...
I guess I will cut a slot in it and fit it on my axle since my axle is 14*10mm it will not rotate.
