I like ATB bikes with a forwards saddle, because who uses the saddle when they are going over stones?

What is the best way to bend an Aluminium seat post forwards by 10-30'? as i understand it , it tends to kink and bend in one place rather than making nice curved bends, which is the reason that they hydroform aluminium by filling it with 350 tons of water pressure when they make frames, aftern making the bend shapes.

maybe putting a PVC pipe in it prior to bending it would stop it from folding?

Might try an electricians conduit pipe bender. I doubt an aluminum seat post would take the bending without damage. Need steel to do that kind of thing.

You're not likely to make a clean bend with a modern seatpost, most of them will not bend at all and rather break, for they are cooked at high temp. Try with the cheap ones, but my guess is that you'll only be able to achieve a clean bend with the older steel tubes.

I'm going to side with those that recommend against bending your alloy post.

There are numerous inexpensive "laid back" seat posts available on the market that should work well in a "laid forward" application.

Here's a link that might interest you:

Also try a search for layback seatpost on ebay and you will find quite a few--it is also a good source for the seatpost shims that may be needed to make it work for your application. I have used one in the lay forward mode on a 20 inch folding bike for years with no problems--I'm almost positive it is a 25.4mm with about a 25 degree bend, steel/black.
