So I decided it was finally time to get off my butt and learn the basics of Algebra... again. I thought it would take me months of study. I knew how to do some really simple Algebra, but that was about it. I'm 37 and I was beyond rusty, I was stuck. Some quick research looking for games to make learning easier turned up positive reviews of software called Dragon Box 12+. $8.62 later and it was mine. Played it for about 20 mins, liked where it was going and then purchased a copy for my wife to see how she did with it. I complain she plays "mindless" games so I thought it would be interesting. She's now addicted and relearned Algebra in 2 days. She's better at it than me, which is good since she can help me if I'm stuck. She also likes to tease me with comments like "it's so easy" and giggling at my occasional struggle.

This game is best for learning the mechanics. I found the I started understanding they why after doing the how enough times.

Knowing Algebra is a life hack that can be very powerful.

I found the Kahn Academy quite useful. It seems they've changed the site to something flashier but less functional than before and the front page wants you to register. However you can skirt around this to the videos:

Click the "Subjects" button in the top menu bar for other types of calculus.

Yeah, know Kahn Academy, this game thing sounded different and that's definitely something I'm needing. I like Plato pretending to quote Socrates when he says "You can't learn what you don't already know." Somehow I can never remember Calculus well enough to repeat what I was doing just fine the next day. Something hands on would help a lot.
