So i was trimming the fronds of a palm tree, and i thought a freak accident had killed it. Appears that when it landed it got its neck pinched, and it slid down the split, almost a foot, so it could not figure how to escape.
I picked it up and it was alive  so i set it right back down, and it rotated its head 180 degrees numerous times, and then i blinked, and it was gone
I like to watch them fly; they must pull 10g's with the stunts they do. I'd say they have the most fun of any insect. Sometimes we team up as they eat mosquitoes :) I'll sit outside and play the "bait" Mosquitoes see me and head in my direction, and the dragonfly swoops in at incredible speed and eats them  8)

Dragonflies are cool. They always seem to have an interest in me when we cross paths, circling and hovering around to see what I'm all about.

A few years ago had one fly up, hover in front of me at eye level, then landed on the button of my Polo shirt. It sat there for a moment while we looked at each other and I talked to it a bit, then off it went.

I learned a neat fact about them when I was travelling recently.
I guess they are in the larval stage living in swamps for years before flying, so the one you saved could have been 4 years old.

When I mow grass, the bugs start popping up in front of me. A bird called a swift swoops across my path, grabbing bugs right in mid-air. Pretty cool to see.

Lately I noticed dragonflies doing the same. I recall reading that dragonflies are one of the most successful predators. If they choose a target and go after it, 99% of the time they capture the victim...

They eat bugs and dont ever bother me...like houseflies and mosquitoes do...so I like them.
