having watched a couple of episodes of the Guiness show and seen some of those weird, ridiculous and WTF? record attemps, I have suggestionfor those forlorn people who need the excitement of world wide acclaim,... it is not in the Guiness book yet... has never even been attempted ... even in Texas.. thought.. actualy, there are two awards available...the gas expelled from the lower orifice of the human body is METHANE....awards available A:"the loudest and B:the longest flaming f..art.... picture the scene.. screaming, yelling crowd..holding their noses...contestant, wearing malicious smile.. judge, wearing respirator, butane torch at the ready.. final instructions..contestant.step forward, hold tight, assume the position....fire when ready!!... the mental image boggles the mind ...any more record ideas??

The majority of people don't actually produce methane.

I think Guinness World Records has lost its cache a long time ago. Too many stupid records.

I wonder has anyone ever burned their insides by doing the flame thing? Imagine trying to explain that one to doctors and nurses.

from a hospital report I saw on two different sites a few years ago... a lrge man , who had consumed an excessive amount of beer and beans was found dead of asphyxiation in a small room filled with heavy concentration of methane gas  You are right.. the moronic nonsense Guiness shows today is demeaning to the contestants..eg catching a bean in your mouth expelled from a partnmers nose.. and has destroyed what was a very good name

At least he went out with a bang.

I recognize this thread starts off on humorous footing; however I offer a few rational alternatives. Human records are essentially performances of endurance, precision, dexterity, repetition… and against environmental challenges such as mountain climbing and deep water diving, etc.

During the summer of 2011 – I broke the EV distance record over a period of time with my 2WD, unofficially. Actually I didn’t even know there was a record until after the fact, and by that time – well… I didn’t have the resources or the ability lined up properly for documentation. Today the record stands at some 19XX miles over 28 days by ebike set in 2009 in Great Britain I believe.

The 28-day record can easily be acquired: I broke it in 2011 by 600 miles – and I didn’t even ride every day. Knowing what I know and about the Guinness process for authenticity and sensationalism, this is my short wish list:

  • EV Farthest Distance on a Single Charge: This should be broken down by weight or wheel e.g. bicycle, motorcycle, trike, car (pedal-assisted, or all-powered 2, 3 and 4 wheel). Variations can include flat-level ground track or course, alpine, or mixed terrain. This concept is plumb for regional events held across the globe.
  • EV Farthest Distance over Time: The 28-day event is already logged. However there is no segmentation over route as previously described. Guaranteed, the un-official record I set covered two mountain passes that nearly twice exceed the highest peaks of Great Britain! Within that spectrum there should be a smaller event for those not wanting to take on an epic challenge -> The 7-Day record. No one has filed for this just yet.
  • EV Farthest Distance carrying a specified load: Essentially a tractor-pull. Who has the strongest rig. I imagine DocBass has that covered in spades! 8)
  • The EV Cup Rally: 24/48 Hours involving several riders. How far can we go? Can your rig handle it? Do we run this in Baja?
This is all doable. My preference is to invest energy in a productive engineering challenge, one that can lead to more visibility for our EV lifestyle as well as promote energy efficiency. There are plenty of bright minds here on this forum, enough to field many candidates. And in a sense – I feel a strong affinity and kinship towards my unofficial teammates to try again… which I yam. Slowly. I just want to be smarter about it next time... and have plenty of official witnesses.

Ever reaching, KF

over 2000 miles..thats a lot of EV miles in rather short time...would that be possible on an E-bike?... longest ride on a single at a minimum speed eg 15mph or quickest time to cover 100 miles would be of considerable interest to commuters..the competitive nature of many people demands record saetting to satisfy egos...but if there is no record ,why bother?? Guiness at one time kept many informative and usefull records. not just sports or athletics..fun to read.. I used to buy a Guiness book frequently... unfortunately the majoirity of the record attempts shown lately are totaly ridiculous.. hence my' suggestion" still,in todays worls,, it would create a lot of spectator attention

Sorry that your unofficial record didn't get attention it deserved!
But I think you are on to something pretty interesting.
Guiness book still has considerable cachet.
What better way to boost awareness of EV among the wider world… than by going after some "cool" records?

My kind of sort of pitiful personal generic eBike builds won't do it
They get me around the neighborhood pretty darn well, but aren't record breaking.
I'd sure be happy to be part of some larger effort to nail (and keep updating) some Guiness records for efficient transport as an attention getter.

Hi
I have the backyard variety ebike too, but electric motors last, and I have reason to chase the dream mile. I'm entirely for more publicity. What an immense fortune awaits the guy to mass commercialize ebikes somehow. The Environment is most important, not only is the simple answer to 'the inconvenient truth' ebikes, they are the answer to obesity, depression, addictions and whatever else you have the self-reliance to use them for. I always said, beside love and food, speed is the next instinctual response we all love to have. aka fun. electricFUNcycle.com. bueno

Updating:

This is a direct quote from the email sent by GWR on Wed 10/17/2012 in reply to my request sent on 7/2/2012. There were two pdf attachments: Evidence Required, and the published record below. The claim was not pursued because I could not produce enough valid evidence to reach the requirements.

Thank you for your application to attempt the record ‘Longest journey on a motorized bicycle'.

The current record (current as at the date of this letter) is:
The longest journey on a motorized bicycle was achieved by Eddie Sedgemore (UK) who cycled 1,912.1 miles (3,077 km) during 28 days from 9 May to 5 June 2009.

Attached are the Specific Guidelines which detail the rules and requirements which must be followed during the record attempt. It is your responsibility to ensure that all participants in the record attempt are aware of the contents of these Specific Guidelines.

Please be aware that these are the current Specific Guidelines and record you have to beat. However, you are responsible for obtaining the most up-to-date information on this record, as Guinness World Records will not directly inform you of any changes. Guinness World Records may update the Record Guidelines and a new record may be set at any time. We advise that you reconfirm the most up-to-date information before staging a record attempt.

Attempting this record

Once you have decided to attempt a record, you have two options:
• Hire a Guinness World Records adjudicator to attend and verify your record attempt live and on-site
• Document and compile evidence of your record attempt and submit to Guinness World Records for verification

When you hire a Guinness World Records adjudicator you have on-site support from one of our team of expert adjudicators. They attend your record attempt to ensure it adheres to the Record Guidelines and will, if successful, announce the new Guinness World Records title live at your event. Our adjudicators are experienced media commentators and can act as a Guinness World Records spokesperson at your record attempt to any radio, TV and newspaper journalists.

The presence of a Guinness World Records adjudicator is the only way you can immediately know whether your record attempt has been successful.

The Adjudication Service also gives you direct access to one of our expert Adjudication Managers, who will help you through the record application and planning process. The cost of the Adjudication Service starts from £4,500 and you are responsible for the transportation and accommodation for your adjudicator. For further details contact the team on: adjudication@guinnessworldrecords.com

Alternatively, you can document and compile evidence on your record attempt and submit it to Guinness World Records for verification. All the evidence that we require is detailed in the Specific Guidelines and the general evidence requirements are detailed in the Evidence Required document attached. The standard verification process takes 4-6 weeks and, if successful, Guinness World Records will provide you with a certificate commemorating your record-breaking achievement.
