hi..
i've ordered the eco-speed gear with it's controller, and i was wondering...

is it technically possible, to hook up to said controller, a bmc hub motor? so the chain drive and hub would operate on the same battery and same controller, or alternitvely have a switch to controller either the hub or chain drive..

I believe each motor needs it's own controller. If the battery can take the discharge rate, two controllers can run on one battery though. People do that with dual hubmotors.

Hard to keep two motors in synch with one controller. So running each motor on it's own controller each motor can stay in synch with it's controller fine. Both controllers can run on one throttle though.

Brushed motors could run two motors on one controller. No pwm-ing.

what do you mean in sync?

unless they are physically bound together, the motors will change positions relative to one another, so when the controller turns on the phase one motor needs to go forward, that phase may not be the correct one for the other motor unless it's in the exact same position.

that's only means they won't start at the exact same time

Nope, as the magnets pass the stator teeth, the phases are fired in sequence to push/pull the magnet ring around, if that sequence is off by a only few mechanical degrees, the phases will fire at the wrong time and make a bunch of heat, possibly damaging motor and controller.

You could have a series of switches to run one motor or the other, but it seems like a really bad idea. Controllers are pretty cheap, so just get a 2nd controller and run both motors.

it's not the price, it's the size i'm worried about...
