I was just at my local fry's electronics in Houston and on the battery isle I found K2 LFP 26650P cells in individual packages. They had 20+ at a cost of $13.99 each and have a 1 year warrenty. I looked on K2's web site and they have them rated at 3.2ah. Here are some specs from the web,

26650P
When high power is essential, this battery delivers with a burst of 150A from a single cell.
FEATURES:
2.6Ah Real Capacity
<9mOhm
Over 40A of continuous discharge
APPLICATIONS:
PHEV
Full Electric Cars
Back-Up Power
Electric Mobility

I was wondering if these seem like a good price vs performance. They also had a K2 24V 9.6ah for $349.00 labeled K2B24V10EB-BX. It looked like a UPS battery but weighed much less. The 24 volt seemed more expencive than some I have seen on the web with similar specifications.

Regards,
Paul

I don't know what LFP is ( lifepo4? ), but at that discharge rate it looks like maybe an A123 knockoff/"nano-tech" lifepo4.

Nonetheless; kind of pricey if you compare to headways or HK lipo.

for ~$21 per cell shipped ( 24 x $21 ) you can get 10AH headways. That's ~$504 for a 36v 20ah pack.
The cost for 36v 20C 20ah lipo ( $42 x 8 ) is $336 before shipping. If you buy it in America, you can often get 1 cent shipping..

If you built a similar pack out of these cells, it would cost you ( 12 x 6.25 x $14 ) $787.50

So tell me, how much do you love the idea of going into an American store, and buying a Chinese product with the white man's markup on it? :)

Not to totally dump on it. Those K2's are more affordable than some American options and i am surprised to see them sold in the USA at a retail store in the first place.

All the K2 cells are made in NV, USA or Finland according to the web site not China. Do the China cells have the 1 year warrenty? I dont know the warrenty conditions so it might be worthless with fine print.

Here is a comparison of their 'power' cells to A123.

Finland/USA-built is a plus. Cost compared to A123, headway, ping, HK lipo etc is difficult to justify though.
On the other hand, they are rated for 2000 cycles, so the value may be found there.

As for the 12v/24v packs, they seem to be rated at 1C continuous... i'd say forget that for eBike duty.

K2 is a private corporation headquartered in Henderson, Nevada, with manufacturing / assembly sites in Nevada, Finland, and China.

Lol, so in other words they make the cells & BMS + wire up the BMS/cells in China and a white guy puts the green case or white/brown wrapping on em.

Nope, probably a woman with a good chance of having a lovely hint of yellow. In the US, assembly is dominated by women. And in the electronics business you see a lot of Vietnamese/Laotion women (and you can count on them to do damn fine work).
