I have nothing to do with this but I wonder what does this forum think about this? Belt driven, foldable, 17kg. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/227461008/gi-bike-the-light-full-size-electric-folding-bike

It's either quite lacking in rigidity and/or the steering geometry is screwy. I base that on the video of the guy riding it. You wouldn't want to go down much of a hill on it.

I got the same impression while watching the video. Either the bike is extremely unstable and squirrely or the guy is just learning to ride a bike.

Ordinarily I loathe a bike with too much "design". Hated the cannondale lefty idea for example. But in this case, It makes the full size bike fold very nice. I think they did a very good job of solving the problems they went after.

Perhaps it will lose some of the step through wobble in the final production version. But as long as it's built for 0-15 mph it shouldn't be dangerous to ride.

But of course, most of us here on ES won't want to go that slow.

A bike that is a struggle to ride in a straight line is a fail. The guy in the video wasn't enjoying his ride at all, because he couldn't keep it straight.

If you look at the way it folds the rear is NOT inline with the front I spotted that when I looked down the site page and there is a animated gif of the folding if you look at it you will see the rear is not inline, so it would be a bit strange to ride the bike with the wheels offset

There is an awful lot of new ideas, technology, and " in house made" components rolled into that product.
Apart from frame rigidity etc ...Why re-engineer the wheel ?
Too many risks for anyone to put $3k upfront i would have thought.

I think he was just riding with the seat too low for his height. His legs looked all bent out of shape while he was pedaling and that could make you feel wobbly.

They need to send me one to test. I really couldn't make much of a call on it from that vid. Riding slow always means some weaving unless the rider is really good.

If the wheels aren't aligned when you unfold it, then that would suck badly.

poor guy looked like he was trying not to crash, probably because his manhood had already been wiped out by that bike.
Anyone else think that back tire looks flat?

Esthetically, this design makes the Pi bike look cool.
The only thing i see good in this art school reject designed bike is that more ebikes on the market means ebikes are closer to being mainstream and socially accepted. And that is key to getting more people out of cars and onto ebikes.

We have enough talent on this forum. We should design a folding ebike for the masses.

What really bothers me is the way people try to rate their ebike's range. Just because the general public doesn't understand how ebike range works doesn't mean it's ok to deliberately mislead them. There's no way there's enough LiFePO4 in that funny shaped frame section for 40 miles without some SERIOUS user pedaling.

I think it is fair to say most of the public, ignorant to how ebikes work, would assume the advertised "range" of an ebike is how far you'd go if you twisted the throttle and then waited for the battery to die. But the way they (and most ebike companies, to be fair) rate their range is based of off some very high level of pedal assistance. It just irks me. grrrr.

Why not advertise infinite* range?

*requires infinite pedaling

They mean after 40 miles the battery is dead and the horse is dead. :D
