I have a 2011 KMX Tornado and want to put a bigger (higher tooth count) chainring on it. I'm told the crank has to be changed as well.. Can someone recommend a place to get the crank and chainring? What's the best way to do this? I have a 7 speed freewheel in back that goes to 11T, so if I can get like a 60 tooth up front that'd be great.
Thanks,
Ryan

You could fit a schlumpf or ATS speed drive and stick with a smaller toothed chain wheel that is multiplied by the when activated to give a very large chain wheel size. "accountant" on here sells them. That way you can have a low gear for hills and high gear for speed

Thanks for the idea but I would like to keep this as simple as possible. A single ring in front would be super simple and I can do all of the shifting in the rear.

That's the beauty of the schlumpf you do only have a single ring in the front but internally there is 2 gears it just means chain rings are easier to get as smaller ones give you the same speed as a larger custom made chain ring. If you are sticking to single chainring then I'm sure a fabrication shop could make you a very large one, maybe put a wanted in the for sale section and someone might come up trumps

The Schlumph sound very cool, but they're $650 for the cheaper one, $850 for the better one. That's more than I paid for my trike, and as much as my battery. Cool idea but I think I'll just get the new crank with large chainring for now.

what's the reason, that you have to change the crank? I run 60 teeth chainring often with the same crank. here is a place to get 60 teeth chan rings.
