Hi there,
couldn't sleep today and as I was aimlessly surfing the web I found this guys from Germany :)
They seem to build an adaptable Velomobile kit for kmx trikes. I find that they reaaaaaaaally look good 8) Remind me a little off the KTM X-bow.
I also looked at their prices... they are , compared to standard price for carbon velomobile quite low ;)
Anyone want to accelerate like a bow and maintain their speed with a few amps? Aaaawh I'm tempted :)
The link ist there:

And a few pics for the decoration

Enjoy! :)

Being a long time velomobile rider myself, I do like the body shape of the el-loco. What bugs me is that the trike underneath has no suspension, a key feature of a 'velomobile'. Going faster with a fairing is nice, but not if the increased speeds have my teeth rattling as I try to avoid rough road conditions.

Now if they develop a kit for other trikes like the HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs or fx, or Steintrike's MadMax and WIldOne (all full suspension trikes) *then* they really have my interest! :D And I suspect more people will take notice.

wow that's pretty cool. But I think the police here in USA would stop the bike if they saw it on the roads. They just wouldn't know what it is.

Steintrike has a velo for Mad Max. Called the Thunderstorm, I believe.

I don't have to believe - I've tried it *and* their update of the Leitra, the Leitra Advancee. Very nice rides.

My point was that this particular velo body would be better suited for a full suspension trike.

That's so cool!

Hmmm..... probably 9-10 thousand Euro Delivered. Not so low to me. When I priced the Thunderstorm body add on for my Steintrike it was about 5000 USD delivered. This was 3 years ago and it may have gone higher but Steintrikes still cost about the same as when I bought mine in 2009.

Wow Dodjob. That is a full velo for 6995 euro? I had a bit of trouble with the translation and was too lazy to use Google but those prices are close to the Thunderstorm body. You are right that is reasonable. If I didn't live in the land of heat I would consider a velo. I would have to wear a cooling vest 8 months of the year. Easier to ride the trike open. I may get a raintop for it for the winter though. 185 USD.

Probably keep the sun out a bit too.

Yeah I was also quite surprised than nobody (or few) were on thoses prices... the 7000 euros is for a complete bike if you already own a Kmx the price comes to a "ridiculus" 3000€ and for a velomobile it's very very not that much. I'm curently searching for one. I'll be honest I will probably go for a used one (quest or go-one) in very bad shape and completly re-build it BUT I must say that 2500€ for a carbon shell would really interest me :)
The previous comments about suspension are quite accurate though, I do drive 30-35Km/h because at higher speed dumps and holes are quite incomfortable. But again, 2500€ for a carbon shell is a real bargain. I will probably contact them to learn more about their shell and specially their "cx" * air penetration factor.- I don't know the name in english.
Anyway, I would love to see a 6-10-20KW velomobile with such shell.. damn.. REALLY

Uhh? No offense but I believe that you are overlooking the obvious though I sincerely doubt that the local law enforcement in the USA would do the same & that is the plain fact that the rear chain derailleur is out in plain sight. It would take a REALLY STUPID cop to not notice that this is just a trike that was converted into a sort of bike car.

OKAAAAYYY! Concession time! Granted, our favorite form of trike, is still very rare. SO...! Granted, especially in my area, (Amish country in middle Tennessee) not many have ever seen a recumbent trike, especially the Amish though the youngsters of the Amish community, have a large collection of bikes among themselves that they ride everywhere every day/ AND!!! Though not as common, there are several Adult Amish people that also prefer the bike over the tedious long task of hitching up a pony to a small cart just to ride a few miles down the road. AND...! The last concession... THERE ARE stupid cops out there that do not understand nor have they ever seen a recumbent trike, never mind my KMX tornado which is currently without a fairing though the model in this thread is something that very much interests me.

With all that in mind, I will concede that IT IS within the realm of possibility to be pulled over by a cop due to a case of ignorance. Alternatively, since this last may when I was FINALLY able to afford one & I assembled it, as the summer progressed til now, I am still very much a head turning novelty while wearing my warm riding suit because the mornings are now chilly & I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the shock value of my appearance on a trike as people often stop to ask me questions.

Their very act of doing so, affords me a window towards educating them because I am also a new age activist. So, my KMX Tornado is a means to an ice breaking conversation starter & to me, that is more important that worrying about a ignorant lone police office pulling me over to issue a ticket that would only be laughed out of court because of when I show them my trike & the fact that it doesn't have a motor & IF there is a bike lane, I always use it. If not, its the law to share & observe the rules of the road. Bikes & trikes are no different & even WHEN I do manage to afford this fairing, once I install it, it really won't change a thing.

Basically, in the USA, IF a cop wants to stop you, he or she WILL stop you for whatever reason they find to be plausible & sometimes you end up with an ignoramus officer that tries to BS you in which case, you simply educate them while being armed with pamphlets that have all the up to date information on local traffic laws in regards to your trike & how riding your trike ass you did when stopped, was not illegal as the officer may have erroneously assumed in his quest to meet his ticket quota. You just hand one to the officer while explaining that it is actual information in relation to the laws of the road & how they apply to a trike, uphill motor or not.

Speaking of which, I do plan on upgrading to an uphill assisted rear wheel powered by an internal hub & YES, because of the obvious, you just can't miss the fact that the E-hub motor is right there in plain sight inside the rear wheel, its all the more reason to be armed with the facts printed on pamphlets from the local DMV so you can shorten or shut down your stop by the cop & be on your way in less time than if you didn't have the information on hand in the first place.

Between this & the matter of this concern over being stopped because of a KMX fairing, its really nothing to be concerned over as long as you are armed with the knowledge to educate the local law enforcement & out here in Amish country, its to be expected since the Amish moved in approximately 6 - 7 years ago. So, its the norm for an enterprising person like me to suddenly show up, riding a trike & passing horse buggies on the down hill while also giving the customary shout, "Heads up driver- coming up on your left!" I do that a lot because the horse carts & carriages may pass me on the uphill but more often than not, I catch up to them on the downhill to pass them & they have grown used to seeing me pass them.

Yet, even with my long winded disagreement over your concern, the entire point is "Don't worry! Be happy!" & if it happens, it happens. Cops may or may not stop you but you can always talk it out with them.

Nuff said -
Peace to all my worldly brothers & sisters-
