Instead of regulating electric bicycles, they want to impose a blanket ban. Isn't this like using a butcher's knife to kill a fly?
Electric bicycles have been around for decades. Now all of a sudden, the bicycles are being banned. Do the Minister expect the owners scrap or throw away their electric bicycles?
The officers didn't bother to think about convenience to users. Probably because none of them use electric bicycles, they don't care. The Minister is foolish to even present the recommendation to the Cabinet.
If excessive speed is the problem, just impose a speed limit that electric bicycles can go. Manufacturers and importers will comply and everyone is happy. Why make life hard on people?
