I'm looking for some dual crowns to install in my 1-1/8 weapon x. It appears the 888s and Monster Ts are DH capable and affordable (pinkbike, ebay completed). I googled the difference between them, not really sure just different travel. I've looked at boxxers and fox, but they hold their value pretty well used.

My application will be for a heavy weapon x that will just become more heavy with the kit installed, speed lets say top out 50mph on perfect surfaces with resilience for chuck holes at slower speeds. I would like to tune it for on road, so having a soft ride would be ideal to absorb the high frequencies on 26" hookworms. I can probably find progressive springs for them too (its just bent wire). Another thing I am concerned with is brake diving... and also ride height, it doesn't look like the monsters have room to raise the stancions to lower the front of the bike, am I correct with this assumption?

Any input is appreciated thank you!

888.

The monster is a decade old design, it weighs half a ton, and it's built beefier than my motorcycle's fork. And if you stick a 3 inch tire in one, it still looks like a pizza cutter. the 888 is just a better fork, without being as big and heavy. Its far more modern, and will hold up to anything you can do to it.

Really all you need is a Driopoff tripple. But A Weapon X deserves an 888. Get a monster only if you're compensating for size issues or you want to stuff a 4" tire onto the front.

... the 4" tire is my excuse. :D
Now if you could find a Super monster, that would be diffrent. But $1500 for a used one hurts, and it's not needed.

Holy sheisse, I didn't know there was a Super version, monster just sounds mean enough on its own :p

Someone postred a pic of a weapon X here in the last couple days. Was that you? Bike against a red background. That fork on it is the Super Monster. 300mm of travel, ment for jumping off bridges and out of planes without a parachute. Able to roll over buildings in a single bound, ect.
So extream overkill Its like smashing the whole house to kill a cockroach. If you need a fork like this, your skeleton has slowly been replaced by titanium screws and plates. But Hell yeah, the fork just goes with that frame:D

Okay, that puts it in perspective for the super monsters wow! May as well take the forks off my cbr1k :p

GCinDC found that red background weapon x + super monster on youtube, in my thread here: http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=43487

Boxxer and Fox 40 forks hold their value because they perform. That is what DH riders like to ride, and the best to use on your Ebike if you will be riding off road. Bombers can be found for peanuts, I just sold one for 100$ and gave one away last winter. It is the first thing I get rid of when I buy a used DH bike to rebuild.

Super Monster T is the Marzocchi fork that is holding a good value. Many will be willing to trade a modern DH fork for one, or pay 1000 + $ if it is mint. The 50mm trial motorcycle fork is the alternative, much more expansive. There is a market with DH riders who like to build big old school bikes for fun freeriding after the races.

Build a seller-buyer reputation on Pinkbike if you want to deal there. There have been a lot of fraud and new members without a history have a hard time at first deals. Local adds are good to find good deals off season, especially if your are in a mountain area. Small bike shops near the bike parks or mountain areas always have a lot of spare parts and components, used and new, that they are willing to deal off season.

Most of all, it is with fellow riders that you find the best trades, when you are active in the MTB community of your region. Best deals never make it to the adds.

Thank you Bro for this explanation, I wonted Marzocchi T as well. It would really looks like pizza cutter with my 3inch tire :)
