Hi I came across a Trek Fuel EX 8. 2014
Now probably best to get the motor first before a frame,
This Trek as I figure does use a Press fit Bottom Bracket, found a few sources.

I am new here,
Any mid drive kits that can be possible with this?
AFT looks quite nice but not compatible because of the BB? Can any of the adapters work?

It's a Shimano Press Fit as far as I can tell. But I can't be sure of exactly what adapter would work.
From wiki it seems Shell Inside Diameter is 41mm and shell width is 86.5mm (road) 89.5mm or 92mm (MTB) (so 92mm on the trek?)

I know most Kits need BSA threading to be easily mounted. Do I need a different frame to get a mid Drive even compatible with the frame?

http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id443.html Will this work for me? Looks like just too BB30 which is another press fit.. Don't think it's possible on this frame.

I am wondering if I can get a GNG from LightningRods mods and improvements, AFT, or an Ego mid drive kit on this bike with the right adapter. (Or any Mid drive at all!) I'm new at this so I not even sure if I have figured what kind of BB is really in my bike but enough sources seem to imply it is indeed press fit.. :(
Any help from the vets here would be greatly appreciated.

I have trek fuel ex7 with aft mid drive but much older bike - 2007. Send jim an email at aft. He responds very quickly. Aft is awesome. Also, I've seen pictures with this system on fat bike which is 100mm.

I also have an Ex7 2007, I think I will need a few new parts to make sure its safe. . mainly a new brake!
What AFT kit and battery you use? How has your frame and bike held up? Just to get an idea on range and speed expectations. How is the torque and hill climbs? The Ex7 is a good all around bike I find, any parts you found needed upgrading or replacement with use of the E-kit?
Have you tried a Hub motor to give me a comparison and opinion?

I will E mail Jim and ask some questions. A fat bike would be nice wonder if the motor can be interchanged easily. (between the two seasons )
I really don't want to limit myself with a hub motor so I am up for the challenge. AFT seems great seems to be more reliable than Ego using oil instead.

Thanks for the reply Drew, I saw your videos. Might be best to use an older bike with the kit, just trying to figure a good balance between cost and what I want from the bike.

I know the EX7 uses a Threaded BB. Install took you 10 hours or so? What upgrades did you go with on your AFT motor?

There are products to convert a press fit BB to threaded, for example:

Avner.

I went with all the upgrades. It did take about 10 hours. It does very good on hills, and handles really well being a mid drive. I get around 37 mph top speed. It will depend on gearing.

I have a bike with hub also. There are pros/cons for each setup. Hub is less maintenance and easier to make faster. I think better for commuting. Mid drive is better for offroad and hills and better handling. Hub is very quiet compared to mid drive. Hub can overheat much faster. There are many other variables. It depends on what your needs are which setup is better.

No problems with the trek bike.

I got battery from em3ev. It's a great battery for that kit and highly suggest it.
