I wanted to see what the absolutely limit of my ebike's distance would be. While this map only shows as the crow flies, doesn't take hills into account and is meant for BD36 with 12a batteries (avg 6 miles roundtrip) you will get the general idea and can change it for your own area:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&z=13&q=http:%2F%2Fwww.nearby.org.uk%2Fgoogle%2Fcircle.kml.php%3Fradius=3miles%26lat=34.053228%26long=-118.245163

I used LA as an example, to make it work for you, go to google maps and find your home. Then look at the "link to this page" and copy the lat/long out of it from the &ll= part.

Change those two numbers in the above link and also adjust the radius if desired
(ie. 3mile could be 5miles, etc)

Neat... I've used Google's Gmap Pedometer for the last while.Mathurin posted the link some time ago, here's the link again...

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/

Type in your zip(US) postal code(Canada) zoom in and plot your course measures in miles/kilometers and it allows for shortcuts ie:cutting through fields.

Google is Great for tons of stuff!

I've seen that before but for some reason I can't get it working in my Firefox.
I might have one too many things blocked in my firewall.

For the "visualize your max e-bike distance", what's the easiest way to find your own latitude&longitude? or do you not even need that?

Find your home on google maps and put it in the center of the screen.
The copy the link from "link to this page" and look for the &ll=number, number in the url.
Those two numbers are your lat/long.

YESSSS! Exactly what I was looking for... and then Eric's pedometer trick.. wooohooo. I can plan exact routes now since i often ride on greenway pathways and ya can't get that with regular mapping! Thanks for sharing this you two!

here is another kewl map site for bikers. i discovered this last night while connecting with local bike folks in my area. This map site allows you and others to add tips/comments on the route maps you make. Really helpful in my area to avoid some very busy roads and even some hills getting to downtown.
