Need help need hub for a stingray

Nothing I've seen sold as a stock item would be that rim.

Your best bet might be to contact Holmes Hobbies, if you are in North America. He's done lots of custom hubmotor lacing. He'd know if it can be done at all, if the spoke holes are the right number and such like.

Lots of people just take the easy route, and put a front hubmotor on a chopper. Lame, but easy.

Here's the best one for the job:

http://www.choppersus.com/store/product/770/Wide-Hub-3-Speed-Disc-SLVR/

It has a disc mount, so you can add a sprotor and motor drive it with a chain from the left side.

No hub motor will fit the absurdly wide rear end of a 21st century Schwinn Stingray. If you get a hub motor designed for 150mm spacing and then mount the torque arms inside the dropouts, you might not have to squeeze the stays down too terribly much. I imagine the frame would tolerate being cold set from 170mm to 160mm without issues.

Are you talking about one of these? http://www.schwinnchoppers.com/ElectricChromewithRedFlames.php I'm in the middle of this chopper build. I like the lines of the Big Mo better than the Stingray but for all that it's cost I almost wish I would have just bought a cheap OCC off of Craigslist & put that rear hub on it.

I like your battery mount solution much better than from the "factory". They are almost invisible.

I'm putting a set of saddle bags over the rear wheel for the batts. Just not quite there yet. Got the hub installed a few days ago & now it's hitting 100 deg plus.

Edited the original post with the saddle bags where the batts will go.

I have searched and have never found anyone else offering a rear hub to fit a schwinn occ other than the link you posted, I bought a
extreme xb 600 scooter hub motor complete with tire it Fit The Width of The schwinn occ perfect, I had to widen the dropouts because
of bigger axle with a hand file and with original tire it sits a cpl inches lower but I think there is a taller tire available I have never finished
the project because i still need a controller and throttle for it.
I think Ypedal ordered a hub with custom axle long enough for the schwinn occ so that might be an option for you
The frontend also requires smaller handlebars so standard wont fit ,and the neck is very long forget finding threaded that long I finally
found a threadless suspension fork with long enough steer tube But Im using that on the trike Im thinking A2B frontend for the schwinn
occ Xb600
These bikes are fun to play around with but to small for alota adults My knees hit the low bars if i turned I swapped them for the mid rise
bars found on some of the bikes this helped but i still need to raise them with some washers or extensions

Good Luck With Yours

Yeah, i got a few crystalyte 4xx series with long axles that will easily fit the wide frames of the occ choppers, they are front hubs ( axle milled for 100mm ID ) but i got plenty of threaded side covers to make them with freewheel and/or disk as required.. just have to use extra axle nuts as frame stops.. the 4 series are not like the X5's but handle 1000 to 2000w nicely... in a 20" rim you can throw 100v at them and they cope with 5000w for short launches but i would not recommend pushing them that hard for too long.

I know this might not be the most optimal solution and I am still quite new at e-bikes but I ended up making an order with conhis motor and ended up getting a complete rim and tyre complete with 48v 500w motor, 48v 25amp controller and the rest of the kit. Worked out to about $430 posted to Australia.

What was great is knowing that the wheel was all ready to install and I can concentrate on other parts. The hub dropouts on the stingray are 170mm I believe.

I will post my results within the next 2 weeks. My only issue now is getting a panier setup on the rear so I can mount the battery in place.
